Released today, Mike Rosenberg, professionally known as Passenger, released his ninth studio album Runaway. This album follows the recent pattern of an album a year, which Passenger has been delivering in recent years. Coming off the backs of The Boy Who Cried Wolf (2017) and Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea (2016), I am impressed Rosenberg can pump out this many tracks to such a high standard every time.
Back with his beloved sound, we have grown fond and familiar with the undeniable sound, which is Passenger. This album brings a new twist on that beloved folk music we have love.
Hell Or High Water sets the tone of the album. Passenger is well known for painting a picture with words and music. Doing it better than anyone I have yet to discover. The vivid imagery throughout this album paints a picture. I can imagine listening to this album end to end on a cross-country American road trip.

If you’re a fan of Passenger you will be extremely impressed with his efforts on this new body of work. Something can be said for finding your sound and sticking to it. Ghost Town, mid way through the albums shows a softer side to the singer, that being said Passenger has found his place within the industry & I don’t see anyone coming to rival him at this stage.
No matter my mood I put this album on. It makes for easy listening in the car, but what’s interesting about it is if you really sit down and dissect each song there’s a different story in each one, all of which are relatable concepts. What I love about Passenger is that he writes about many diverse topics, apposed to the typical love & heartbreak.
Ten live stripped acoustic tracks of the previous track-list close out the musical genius that is Runaway, each recorded in a different location across America, further tying in the road trip imagery.
A beautiful album, I wouldn’t expect anything less.
4 Stars.
