Beats from electro pop duo Polographia and vocals from Winston Surfshirt have officially joined forces and have become Poloshirt.
The funky trio have only released their self titled debut EP less than a month ago. The love they have received, has scored themselves a beautiful sold out crowd on their first stop on their national tour in Sydney at the Oxford Art Factory.

Poloshirt have brought along Price J and Nasty Mars as supports. These lovely peeps also feature on two of Poloshirt‘s tracks. So who knows maybe after their set, we may hear them again very soon I hope.

As the house lights went down Price J stepped on stage.

.

“Come down closer” she says.

.

Positive vibes flooded the room. Price J began her set with her song Prey For Better Days. This groovy number was filled with meaningful lyrics and the connection she had with this song shined through. Price J performed her new song Flipped. Funky RnB vibes were all this track. The crowd was digging it. As she sang the lyrics’Its got to be love” Price J got the whole crowd grooving to the left side, to right side then putting their hands in the air. One of her last songs in her set was Talk too Much. This chilled out Rnb song really showcased her beautiful vocals with lovely runs that sit with you. Price J is one uplifting performer who can nail rap and pull out sweet vocals.

Up next was Nasty Mars all the way from East Melbourne. Unfortunately, for this set he wasn’t accompanied by his band.

.

“I’m usually with a band but i couldn’t bring them tonight says Nasty Mars.

.

Tonight he was accompanied by Newbie Boy on the decks. That didn’t stop him performing at his very best. Performing his Hip-Hop/RnB love songs, his own emotional side kicked in. Sharing his own experience with love through his music.

.

“As you can tell I’m an emotional guy” says Nasty Mars.

.

During his set Newbie Boy came out from the decks and performed his own Hip-Hop song Dirty Nike. Newbie Boy got the crowd chanting the hook “On the road of dirty Nike”. What do you see what you see”. Newbie Boy, brought that old school Hip-Hop sound to the stage. That got the crowd hyped. Nasty Mars returned, the stage lights dimed and he got the crowd to put up their phone lights. Performing Sunday Night, a ballad break up song. This song pulled the heart strings. You could see and hear the connection that Nasty Mars has with this song in his melo vocals.

Poloshirt

.

It wasn’t a long wait for the stage curtains to reopen. A  cartoon sunset was projected on the cyc. Fans may even recognize this very sunset from their cartoon appearance on social media platforms. Poloshirt stepped out on stage to a warm welcome from the crowd. They kicked straight into funk gear with their song Basic. Feeling right into the groove, Poloshirt where groovin along and the crowd knew every word. During the 44 second song Beaterlude, Winston brought that swagger rap and moves to go with it.

As Poloshirt performed, the projections changed with every song. Taking us through Poloshirt‘s cartoon city. This city was full of surprises. Poloshirt treated us with two Winston Surfshirt’s very own songs Ali D and Not About You. The crowd went nuts. Even if, it was performed without Winston Surfshirt’s band, it was still flawless.

Price J returned to perform To Good To Be True in which she features on. Both of them were vibing off each other, it was truly magic. Price J stayed on with Poloshirt to cover Kaytranada‘s track Got It Good. Poloshirt and Price J put their own funky rap spin on the song. Poloshirt also brought out Nasty Mars to perform Ima Give Em, which features him also. As the projections changed to the train station that appears on the Pinned Upon single cover. We all knew it was time to perform their first single Pinned Upon. Layed back RnB vibes took hold and had us all dancing along. As Poloshirt concluded their last song.

.

“That was our last song, but we are going to attempt one more song” says Winston.

.

The song they attempted was a Hip Hop classic, Cypress Hill‘s track Insane In The Brain. You could tell they were still working on it but it was a killer cover. For us to hear that work in process was pretty awesome. I can’t wait to hear it when its all worked out, to see what spin Poloshirt will throw on it. As Poloshirt waved goodbye and walked off stage, the crowd already wanted more chanting ‘one more song’ as the house lights came up. Its no doubt, that Poloshirt got themselves a following in a short amount of time. From their cool, swagger appearance to blending their own individual sounds of Polographia and Winston Surfshirt together. But as they perform live, its sounds and feels like they have always been the one band. Poloshirt is a match made in heaven. Or should I say cartoon heaven.

.
