Groovy, stylish, fun. All these words immediately come to mind when describing Rafa’s latest single “Fight No More’, which brings an energetic and downright addictive sound to the table that you’re sure to love.
The first thing that will jump out at you when listening to “Fight No More” are Sam Welch’s vocals, which are smooth and incredibly catchy. One thing that Sam does incredibly well is vocal clarity. It’s all too frustrating when listening to a great song when the experience is hindered by vocals that can’t be made out properly, but this is absolutely not the case here, with every single syllable that comes out of Sam’s mouth coming through loud and clear. Sam’s vocals also have a highly refined and ‘produced’ sound, which suits perfectly with the boppy electronic style being used in “Fight No More”.

The vocals are great then, but how about the lyrics? Rafa certainly doesn’t disappoint in this regard, offering plenty of fun, yet thought provoking lines that will get stuck in your head for hours. Lines such as “round and round we go, like this is all we know, like we won’t ever see the light of day” offer a surprisingly insightful reflection into how we can fall prey to doing the same things over and over every day, without striving for new experiences and adventure.
It’s worth mentioning at this point that Rafa began his musical journey without a foundational knowledge of music theory, instead relying on his creativity and ability to intuitively feel emotions evoked by various notes and chords. As a result Rafa’s sound is lovable and unique, as every musical idea was created for the sole purpose of evoking emotions and feeling, rather than just being a combination of notes based on theory. This really shines through in “Fight No More”, which has a sound that is passionate and groovy.
On the topic of production and instrumentation, everything here is top notch. The percussion is particularly great, with a punchy kick keeping a solid groove that is impossible not to tap your foot to. The trumpet playing is the main show stopper here, providing an extremely catchy melody that is bound to put a smile on your face the moment you hear it. The bass hits hard too, tying everything together and adding some great punch to the sound. Mixing elements of hip hop, pop and a club oriented sound together into one highly addictive package, “Fight No More” feels like the definitive summer jam.
Overall, “Fight No More” is a great release by Rafa that sees him encapsulating the essence of fun in a way that few artists can.
