“Lazarus draws you in with an infectious melody that effortlessly weaves heartfelt lyrics, captivating rhythms, and unforgettable hooks” Forte Magazine

Hot new track alert! Melbourne artist Rance Lazarus is back with his latest single “Next Time” and it’s a shiny retro-inspired pop rock set to hook you from the opening riff.

“Next Time” has Rance sinking into the existential bittersweet feeling of loving the right person at the wrong time with an exploration of unrequited love and missed chances. These are themes we’ve all heard before but Rance delivers them with a sense of c’est la vie.  The song oscillates with finesse between dreamy and desire like walking on a tightrope.

The song is a rush of jangly guitars and layered synths. The bassline grooves with an understated urgency grounding the song as Rance spills his soul across verses that look torn from his journal. The production is undeniably slick like a glossy tiktok filter over a candid moment. And the inclusion of the saxophone ramps up the song with a sense of nostalgia.  A couple of verses and there’s no denying the track’s buoyant energy is infectious and the hooks stick like glue. You can certainly hear the songwriter’s admiration for other groups pop artists too like LANY and The 1975. So if you vibe with that sound, then “Next Time” is an immediate add to your playlists.

Rance’s vocals are vulnerable and playful, slipping between introspective melancholy to bittersweet optimism. His emotional confession of hoping that maybe the love story he longs for is still to be written carries through with his effortless singing. He might be broken-hearted but he’s determined to dance through the chaos. The juxtaposition of loss and longing with “Next Time’s” veneer of shimmering technicolour is not something that is easily pulled off but Rance makes it look very natural.

With “Next Time” Rance Lazarus stands up as a pop songwriter to take notice of. He’s shown that he can craft a pop bop that glimmers whilst not losing its edge, a tasty morsel of a pop paradox. For lovers and those who love being in love, “Next Time” has got you.

Rance Lazarus will celebrate the release of ’Next Time’ with a performance at the Bergy Bandroom on February 9th. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience his captivating sound live.
