It’s been 11 years since Reece Mastin won the third season of Australia’s ‘The X Factor’ back in 2011. Over the last 10 years has been working overtime to leave the cliche of “X Factor winner, teenage heartthrob” behind him and rebrand himself as the rock and roller he always wanted and intended to be. So here we are a decade later on the 10 year anniversary tour of Reece’s second album, Beautiful Nightmare.

This last Saturday night the patrons of Albury’s Beer Deluxe braved the cold to enjoy a night of live music courtesy of Reece Mastin. Opening his set with obvious fan favourite Shout It Out, Reece warmed the crowd up for one hell of a night.

Hearing Beautiful Nightmare live after Reece taking it off the set for years was a very special treat, as someone who saw Reece on the Beautiful Nightmare tour back in 2012, it was very surreal to see how the same song can change and sound so different, I have to give credit to Reece’s band – Joe on the drums, Adam on the guitar and Dan on the keys who without a doubt play a very big hand in delivering what could only be best described as a classic pub style rock & roll show.

With a set full of classics like Shut Up & Kiss Me and forgotten gems like Freakshow, Reece worked in something for each body of work he’s released over the years and delivered and incredible performance – even paying homage to his X Factor days by bringing back his rendition of the Bee Gees Stayin’ Alive.

Continuing on with Rock$tar and Timeless, there is no questioning that Reece is an impeccable performer, with such strong and powerful vocals and crazy guitar skills, the man is a rockstar. And if you’ve ever been to a Reece Mastin gig you know exactly how it ends, with an epic cover of Guns N Roses Paradise City, complete with a phenomenal guitar solo.

I truly mean it when I say that Reece Mastin puts on a show where each time is better than the last, he has always given his all in to his performances but each and every time he gets better and better and I for one am extremely thankful to have been able to watch his progression as a musician and performer over the last 10 years and I can’t wait to see where he goes from here. He put on one hell of a show in Albury and he’s nowhere near finished yet with a run of shows across Victoria and New South Wales still to come with the last few remaining tickets available on his website.
