Tonight marks the second performance of Reliqa’s “Secrets of the Future” tour and the first headliner, celebrating the launch of their debut album. It is a remarkable achievement to sell out their first tour date, especially outside their hometown, underscoring the burgeoning fan base of this phenomenal emerging band. This is not my first encounter with Reliqa; I first witnessed their prowess at the Monolith Festival, sharing the stage with heavyweights like Karnivool. Subsequently, they graced Babymetal’s debut Australian headline tour, cementing their presence in the music scene.

The venue for tonight’s sold-out show, the intimate Bergy Band Room, buzzed with anticipation as Melbourne’s gothic metalcore outfit, Silver Fang, set the stage ablaze. Their performance ignited the crowd early with thunderous drumming, blistering vocals, and captivating guitar riffs. Lead singer Stephanie Jessica Rose commanded attention with her soaring vocals and commanding stage presence. Despite hearing about Silver Fang within local music circles, this was my first live experience, and they left an indelible impression, guaranteeing a repeat attendance.

RinRin

Following Silver Fang, the spotlight turned to RinRin, a revelation from Perth whose Pop Punk infusion and energetic stage presence electrified the audience. RinRin, with three guitarists and a drummer complementing their dynamic vocals, delivered a set that exuded fun and promise. Their performance evoked imagery of carefree coastal drives, reminiscent of late 90s/early 2000s vibes, particularly with their hit song “The Game.” RinRin’s potential for stardom was palpable, drawing comparisons to Avril Lavigne with their infectious melodies and engaging persona.

Finally, the moment arrived for Reliqa to command the stage, transforming the packed venue into a pulsating sea of fans. Miles Knox, clad in a sparkling fishnet outfit, epitomized the band’s distinctive style, signalling the band’s unapologetic embrace of their identity. The atmosphere crackled with energy as Reliqa launched into tracks from their debut album, also including older crowd favourites like “The Bearer of Bad News” during their set. The highlight of the night for me was “Sariah,” a track that transcended mere music, transporting listeners into a realm of profound emotional resonance.

Throughout their set, Reliqa displayed their evolution, blending futuristic elements with haunting melodies, exemplified in their rendition of “Two Steps Apart.” The ethereal interlude featuring Monique on keyboard underscored the band’s versatility and artistic depth and the band joined in to finish off the song which made for such an amazing version. Monique’s haunting vocals captivated the audience, delivering a moment of pure magic that resonated long after the final note faded.

Beyond their musical prowess, Reliqa demonstrated their commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for their fans, pausing their set to address unruly behaviour, and championing their concert as a sanctuary for all attendees. A poignant moment unfolded as Monique reached out to a fan during a heartfelt rendition, symbolizing the band’s genuine connection with their audience.

As the night ended with the anthemic “Mr. Magic”, the audience’s enthusiasm showed no signs of waning. Reliqa’s ability to captivate and unite through music was undeniable, leaving an enduring imprint on everyone present. Silver Fang and RinRin set the stage alight with their distinct sounds and infectious energy, laying the foundation for Reliqa to deliver a performance that surpassed all expectations.

In retrospect, tonight was not just a concert; it was a testament to the transformative power of music and the boundless potential of artists like Reliqa, Silver Fang, and RinRin. Each band brought a unique flavour to the stage, leaving an indelible mark on the audience and setting a high bar for future performances. For those yet to experience the magic of Reliqa live, tonight’s spectacle serves as an irresistible invitation to join the journey—a journey destined for greatness and global acclaim.

In conclusion, tonight was not merely a show; it was a celebration of creativity, passion, and the unbreakable bond between musicians and their audience. If you have not witnessed the phenomenon that is Reliqa, I implore you to do so—you will not regret embarking on this unforgettable musical odyssey.
