“She’s the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen, just a pity she’s just so darn mean… She’s got a motor like a brand new car, just a pity I can’t get a spark…” – So Darn Mean
.
April 20 saw the release of the self-titled debut album by budding Country-Blues band, Rhythm X Revival. The nine track debut pays homage to the soulful tones of the Country and Blues era, centred around the songwriting and friendship of Melbourne duo and Rhythm X Revival founders – John-Luke Shelley and Johnny Tesoriero. If there was a simple way to explain the album to any Country or Blues fan, you would say that Rhythm X Revival is purely the reincarnation of the deep, old school Tennessee sounds we all know and enjoy.

The album opens with Hit The Road Running; a three minute upbeat, modern Country-Blues hit that will have you up on your feet from start to finish.
Good Man Feeling Bad is a pure Bluesy, six minute track driven by the soulful melody of the piano and electric guitar and a man’s raw emotion for his woman.
So Darn Mean is a three minute catchy Blues track cleverly comparing a man’s strong infatuation with a woman who won’t give him the time of day to a brand new car that just won’t work.
Man And Woman is a three minute grungy, electric guitar led ballad that whisks you away on a journey, an insight into a rollercoaster relationship of man and woman.
Hell Of A Ride is a catchy, two and a half minute modern Rhythm X Revival take on the old Country-Blues era.
The Beast is a seven minute dark, soulful classic Bluesy ballad filled with an enigmatic instrumentation between the hypnotising vocals.
Almost Every Night is a catchy, energetic four minute track about the intimacy of a man and his woman.
You Drive Me Crazy is definitely not inspired by Britney Spears, but is rather a four minute catchy, classic Blues hit.
The last track, Have You Ever Been So Lonely is a four minute soulful ballad drenched those deep Bluesy tones and driven by the captivating lyrics and sublime melody of the piano and guitar.
With a National tour to be announced, Rhythm X Revival are taking their debut album and touring Victoria and South Australia; playing a number of shows for fans old and new from April to June. Although Country isn’t the first genre you would see me listening to, I have a soft spot for the Blues and this album really hones in and fuses that old school Blues genre with Country; creating powerful ballads and strong Country hits through their traditionally modern melodies, catchy lyrics and captivating vocals.
