The boys from RÜFÜS DU SOL have been pretty busy, jumping from country to country on their Solace tour, but finally have landed back in their homeland. Playing to a huge sold out (wayyyy in advance show) in Wollongong’s MacCabe Park, I made my way there with the rest of Sydney/Wollongong.

Supporting the boys across their Aussie tour were two acts from their newly formed record label, Rose Avenue Records. First up were Lastlings a brother/sister duo who started out our evening with some sweet dreamy electro-pop vibes. It wasn’t so busy at this stage, so it was nice to be able to kick back with a drink and settle into the evening with these guys. Pretty keen to see what 2019 brings for these guys, overall I really enjoyed their set and hope that a new EP is on the horizon for them soon. Next up was Sydney-producer Cassian, who really started to pump up the crowd up for the evening. While the sun was setting for the night, he got everyone up having a bit of boogie with a set featuring a mix of his older stuff and some cuts from his new single from 2018 Lafayette.

At this point, we were all ready for the journey the boys were about to take us on. Having listened to Solace on repeat ever since it dropped in October last year, I was pretty stoked that I was seeing it live (plus it was my first time seeing RÜFÜS DU SOL too!). As each of the guys set out onto the stage, they each had their own space set up with MASSIVE strobe lighting. What a bloody treat they had for us in store.

We got to hear every track from Solace along with a few of their bangers from their EP Bloomand their album Atlas. The crowd pleasers were of course ‘Treat You Better‘, ‘No Place‘ and ‘Innerbloom‘ along with ‘Like An Animal‘ which had the crowd absolutely belting along the lyrics to it. Man what a vibe, However, to me the standouts were ‘Underwater‘ (took one of my Triple J hottest 100 votes for this year) and ‘Another Life‘ which had me in tears, its my favourite from the album. We ended the evening with massive confetti guns blasting into the sky, bits scattered across the park and the crowd.

My only critique for the evening really was that it ended. I really wished we could of got another few hours just so we could hear everything, I guess though, we can’t have it all. Overall I’d give this evening a 9/10.
