Sadistik Forest are a death metal band from Finland. Their 3rdFull length album is entitled Morbid Majesties and is due out via Transcending Obscurity Records on May 25th.

I’ll cut to the chase here;  Morbid Majesties is an absolutely savage release which has an old school, Scandinavian death metal soul paired with modern sounding production. It’s the perfect package for fans of old school death metal in 2018. The razor sharp guitar tones and frantic drums invoke the likes of Grave and Entombed. The beastly gutturals from Markus Makkonen (ex-Hooded Menace) are diverse and blood curdling, ranging from Demilich style burps and gargles to much more familiar death metal vocal techniques employed by the likes of John Tardy (Obituary).

The album starts with Morbidly Majestic which is a no nonsense, crushing way to start the album. Its fast and heavy and the lead guitar work and vocals are particularly impressive. I’m only one track in and whilst there’s no doubt that Sadistik Forest are reminiscent of bands that have gone before them, there’s a tangible energy, and level of quality and refinement which draws you in to the release (unlike many other bands who seem to play an uninspired re-hash of the greats of the past).

The album is really good from start to finish; you have break neck tracks like Decades of Torment Then Death, The Maelstrom Opens & Destructive Art, and slower, more chugging style tracks like Monsters of Death and The Hour of Dread. I like pretty much every riff and moment on this release but the band do a particularly great job at writing at slower tempos where their riffing seems purpose made for neck destruction.

The album is closed with the 9 minute epic Bones of a Giant. Try not to head bang during that first riff. God damn.  I’m getting shades of classic Obituary at times in this one, and what a way to close the album out.

Morbid Majesties is only 35 minutes long but it’s a particularly satisfying 35 minutes. Sadistik Forest are flying the flag for death metal in a big way with this release. Put simply, this album is a must listen for fans of traditional death metal (whether that be of the Scandinavian or Florida varieties).

Highly Recommended

Finnish death metal band Sadistik Forest are changing things up a bit without diminishing any of their trademark pummelling. Their latest album is clearly the best one yet and is receiving a terrific response. US-based site Heavy Blog Is Heavy premiered a crushing track AT THIS LINK, where the writer Jonathan Adams summed it up beautifully –

“The Finnish juggernauts onto something special with their new record, and “Morbidly Majestic” is the perfect example of what makes their brand of death metal great. Hail the kings of Finland! Long may they reign.”
