“you can’t stop creativity, it’s in your blood”
For artist Samskara Rad, “you can’t stop creativity, it’s in your blood” and the chameleon artist has returned with his first single for 2022 by taking inspiration from the old to create something new and fresh. His latest release, “Ghetto Of Love” takes the previously penned song and transforms it to become a vibrant dancehall, EDM banger.
Like many of Samskara Rad’s songs, “Ghetto of Love” comes from a place of social examination and insight. The song was written back in the 1980s when Samskara Rad moved to the Melbourne suburb of St Kilda. The song got some traction on the airwaves but fell into obscurity when the group Samskara Rad was a member of disbanded. The song has now found its place today, blooming from its origin as a song about the St Kilda underworld to become a track melding reggae and EDM that beats with an Aussie heart.

“Ghetto of Love” on first listen to sounds like your familiar reggae dancehall song but there is much to unpack from the production which features a lot of surprising samples and hooky stabs. From the wobbly synths to the drum machines and use of analogue atmospheric elements “Ghetto Of Love” is at its heart a dance song that calls on the old but reinvents itself for a modern soundscape. So if you think of the sonic style of Jean-Michel Jarre but with the pop-dance infectiousness of a Major Lazer or Pnau song then you have found the space that “Ghetto Of Love” resides in.
The energy that Samskara Rad exudes in this song is also something to note. He seems excited by the song and its energy with his vocal delivery flourishing and hitting all the right points adding hues to the technicolour world that he’s created. It’s a song that makes you want to lose yourself. Teaming up again with producer Austin Leeds for “Ghetto Love” they’ve produced a song that shows that musical passion and creativity does indeed pulse in Samskara Rad’s blood.
Check out the new single, “Ghetto Of Love” when it’s released on all digital stores on Friday, 11th March.
