Following the sell out of the inaugural One Love Festival, Sean Paul & Shaggy announced a co-headline East Coast tour – the largest shows the two have ever played in Australia. Here’s my summary of what happened at their Sydney show.
The first time I saw Shaggy I was 15 and I wasn’t actually old enough to get in to the show so one of my friends and I sat outside the venue and listened, fast forward about five years and here I am reviewing.
Mr Boombastic himself takes to the stage with the charismatic charm we have grown so used to seeing over his almost 3 decade career. Performing classic fan favourites like ‘In The Summertime’, ‘Angel’ and of course ‘It Wasn’t Me’. Shaggy uses his charisma and humour to interact with his crowd, joking about how the ladies belong in the front of a Shaggy show and how reggae love songs are better than RnB love songs. From celebrating his home country of Jamaica with us to teaching us how to wine, Shaggy brought it all.

Next we had Sean Paul who was noticeably lacking the stage presence that Shaggy had just given us. Relying on his backup dancers and band to interact with the crowd, Sean Paul kept his set pretty straightforward going from song to song with no in-between banter. That being said, Sean Paul gave us a high energy set with his hits like ‘Get Busy’, ‘Baby Boy’, ‘Got 2 Luv U’ and ‘Temperature’ while at the same time starting the weakest “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!” chant that I’ve ever seen.
To sum it all up, Shaggy and Sean Paul had the whole of Hordern Pavilion up and dancing along to their reggae classics all night. To see two of the biggest household names of reggae music under the same roof on the same stage was an experience to say the least. Despite the muggy weather, the two had the floor of Hordern Pavilion going crazy without a care in the world, the way live music should make you feel.
