36 years after first performing in this country, Sebastian Bach, the original lead singer of Skid Row is back on Australian soil for a national tour. Was he still a force to be reckoned with? We went along to the final gig of the tour to find out.
Willie J’s 6v6s kicked things off with a blast. Their set featured a mix of blues-infused rock originals and a few covers, each delivered with genuine passion and flair.
The rhythm section was tight, laying down grooves that got the crowd moving from the get-go. Willie J himself was magnetic on the mic and guitar, leading the band through tracks that ranged from soulful ballads to raucous jams.
After a brief interval, the anticipation in the room was high as Sebastian Bach & Band took the stage.
Right from the get go, Bach’s set was a masterclass in showmanship. From the opening solo track “What Do I Got To Lose” into “Slave To The Grind” into “Here I Am” his vocals were as powerful as ever, showcasing a range that belied the passing years. Backed by a stellar band, Baz was ON tonight. All the tracks from the Skid Row debut album got a spin + Kiss & Rose Tattoo covers thrown in too. “Monkey Business” got a run, as did “Get The Fuck Out’ as the night’s closer.
Audience interaction was a highlight, with Bach taking time to chat with the crowd & share stories from his decades in rock. Time is certainly moving on, but going by tonight’s performance, Sebastian Bach isn’t slowing down too much. At age 57 he still rocks hard.
Sebastian Bach delivered an unforgettable headline performance. Eatons Hill Hotel provided the perfect backdrop for a night that will be talked about in the local scene for months to come I’d suspect. 10/10.
