We are in good hands with Simone Waddell’s latest offering How Do You Keep The Music Playing? featuring Doug Williams. Opening with a sense of quiet confidence, it’s a performance that knows exactly what it’s doing and refuses to overplay its hand.
It’s a contemporary jazz duet that’s refined, poised and built on a level of musical restraint that immediately signals care and intention. Every choice feels deliberate from the phrasing, the lingering pauses and the unhurried delivery.
Doug Williams becomes a vital part of the song’s architecture the moment he enters. Rather than arriving as a secondary voice, he locks into Simone’s tone with a depth and ease that reshapes the emotional direction of the track. Their blend isn’t just harmonious but also connective. The warmth and balance between them give the duet its backbone showing an intimacy that feels lived-in rather than layered on.

It’s the type of high-end craftsmanship that supports the vocal narrative rather than competing with it.
How Do You Keep The Music Playing? is the second single from Waddell, the sister to her first single Unforgettable. The difference between the two? This new song’s interpretation of Michel Legrand’s classic number sits in a more introspective space where Unforgettable leaned into expressive intensity. How Do You Keep The Music Playing? counters with sophistication and restraint as a study in romance and finely controlled delivery.
It’s a beautifully restrained, elegantly rendered song for lovers.
