Sleep Token. Sleep Token are a band currently on the rise. The band seem to have worked their way into the Zeitgeist, with favourable reviews from fans & critics alike. Offering up a different blend of sounds, from Metal to dreamy like Soundscapes, Beats & Synths, Sleep Token are building a strong following of fans around the world.

The band’s members remain anonymous, using pseudonyms, and wearing masks while performing to hide their identities. This all adds to the mystique surrounding the group.

Live Performances are where Sleep Token truly shine. Fans have described their shows as a transformative experience. We went along to the band’s Brisbane gig at The Tivoli to check out the hype.

A sold-out crowd were greeted by lead singer, known as Vessel, rising up solo from the back of the stage amid a haze of smoke & dark lighting. Standing in front of a lone keyboard, he proceeds to take us into the quiet intro of opening track, Chokehold. As the rest of the band begin to walk onstage, the crowd are loud & ready to go. The band soon launch into the song proper & bring plenty of energy, each member commanding the stage. Second track in is fan favourite, The Summoning. At times a bludgeoning force of metal, at times a synth pop dream sequence, the crowd reception to the song is wild. The band are now cooking. Following up with Hypnosis, the band take the crowd on a journey of brutal highs & luscious, dreamy synth driven lows. Vessel’s vocals are on the mark, his stage presence is spot on & he has the crowd in his hand. The other 3 members of the band are all following suit with high energy performances.

Over the next 90mins Sleep Token take the crowd on a truly magical ride. It’s hard to categorise this band to a specific genre of music & therein lies their strength. Their set is genre fluid. Heavy as hell. Yep. Soft and mellow as well. Sleep Token are putting a new & different spin on things, and judging by the response tonight, people are digging it. Great Gig.
