Melbourne’s own Slowly Slowly were to play at The Forum for their sold out Victorian show on the Daisy Chain Album Tour.

The night started out with support band Clews. It seemed as though much of the crowd had not yet arrived, however I felt that this soft start to the set actually fit the vibe of the group very well. This paired with the dreamy vocals, the music felt so much more intimate and special. The band played a few slower songs, as well as their latest track ‘Everything Is Heavy’ which brought the speed up from the beginning of their set. Clews also played an upcoming song titled ‘Better Than Before’, which was an exciting addition to the set. The group finished strong as more of the crowd had trickled into the venue throughout the set.

Next up was the pop punkers of the evening, Between You & Me. They started off with a real bang with their Spotify #1 ‘Dakota’, where vocalist Jake Wilson almost immediately leapt off the stage on to the barrier where fans were screaming along to the popular song. This set was full of huge jumps, upbeat pop punk goodness, and I’d also like to give a special mention to the lighting on this one; it was amazing and really set the mood in certain songs such as ‘Supervillain’. About halfway through their set the band mentioned that it was their first time playing at The Forum and even joked about the size difference to Wrangler Studios, where they played (and I attended) many of their early shows in Melbourne, which really goes to show the growth of the band since their beginning. In a real show of contrast, the band played also played their 2017 single ‘Overthinking’, which of course their fans knew every word to, as well as their latest single ‘Nevermind’.

They ended the set with ‘Deadbeat’, where both Jake Wilson and bass player James Karagiozis split the crowd in half, jumped in, and sang right from the middle of the floor. This of course resulted in some sort of wall of death before they were crowdsurfing back to the stage to end their last song.

At his point in time Turnover would have played their set, however due to unforeseen circumstances the band was unable to attend. However this was not all bad news, as Slowly Slowly had organised to instead extend their set to run for two hours to make up for the loss, meaning that they would not only play Daisy Chain in full, but also had fans suggest and vote on their previous songs during the week leading up to the event.

So with that, Slowly Slowly’s set began. Yet we were still looking at the giant white sheet that had covered the stage since the beginning of the evening, the music started and we saw the outlines of band members form behind the sheet and before we knew it the sheet dropped and the road went absolutely wild at their first glimpse of the band.

Within the first few lines crowd surfers were already making their way to the stage, which really set the energy that would be to follow. Now of course, playing their latest album ‘Daisy Chain’ mean that we heard songs such as ‘Papier-Mache’ and their Spotify #2 track ‘Blueprint’, although it didn’t seem to matter which songs they played because I’m confident that the crowd would sing every word to any of Slowly Slowly’s songs. The real treat here was the older tracks that we were able to see live, which I’m sure was an epic addition for all of the die hard fans in the crowd. For the overall set, the first word that comes to mind is ‘bouncy’, this set was so high energy and had so much interaction, it really showed off the dedication of the fans and the love that this band receives.

This was a really fantastic and energetic show, with some amazing performances throughout the night.
