So-Cal punk pioneers Social Distortion & Bad Religion are currently Co-Headlining a tour of Australia & New Zealand for the first time. We went along to the Brisbane leg of the tour to check out two of the finest bands to ever do it.

Not having toured Down Under for some years, both bands have a solid fan base in this country & the large crowd at The Brisbane Riverstage, a fantastic outdoor venue, were keen to witness some great Live Music.

First to hit the stage are Bad Religion. After a career spanning 43 years & 17 studio albums, Bad Religion are without a doubt one of the best-selling, greatest punk rock bands of all time. They remain just as relevant today as they always have. With Greg Graffin out front on vocals, the twin guitar attack of Brian Baker & Mike Dimkich, Jamie Miller on drums, Jay Bentley on bass guitar, Bad Religion are a well oiled live act. They still perform with an insane amount of energy. Tonight we were treated to some classic tunes from the boys: Generator, Infected, Do What You Want, American Jesus, 21st Century Digital Boy just to name a few.

Next Up, the legends Social Distortion hit the stage. Having never seen the band live myself, it’s so good to finally see the main man, Mike Ness, guitar slung low, out front of the mighty Social D. The man is a Punk Rock / Hardcore survivor. A true pioneer & innovator of the scene. Since 1983, when debut album Mommy’s Little Monster was released, Social Distortion have risen to legendary status within the Punk Rock community. With seven studio albums & countless tours under their belts, Social D are a battle hardened band. The current line up consists of long term alumni Jonny “2 bags” Wickersham on guitar, Brent Harding on bass guitar & David Hidalgo jr on drums. The power & energy the band put out is awesome. They sound tight, command the stage & don’t miss a beat. Fans are treated to plenty of classic tunes as well as some new tracks from a forthcoming studio album.

What a gig. Both bands played awesome sets. The crowd loved it. Nobody went home disappointed. A great night was had by all. Bravo.
