As live music slowly makes it way back to venues across the country, it is not without its challenges.  For W.A. band Spacey Jane, the hurdles the group have faced on their sold-out national tour have been endless.  From border closures to lost voices, Spacey Jane have faced it all.  Even when it seemed all the stars had aligned for their Brisbane shows to go ahead, the band was forced to postpone just hours before they were set to take the stage.  As the fans lined up outside the Riverstage on Saturday night, the band had to share the crushing news that they would not be given an exemption to perform.

With the shows rescheduled to the following week, the loyal fans flocked to the Riverstage once again to finally catch one of Australia’s most exciting young bands.  “Sorry for the Hiccups” lead singer Caleb apologises “and thanks for putting up with a Wednesday night show”.  It’s been so long since we’ve all experienced a show like this, it didn’t matter what night of the week it was, we were all just happy to be there.

Despite all the tour woes, Spacey Jane have had an incredibly successful 12 months.  The band released their debut album Sunlight in June last year, debuting at #2 on the Aria Charts.  Four tracks from the critically acclaimed album also made their way into this year’s Triple J Hottest 100, with Booster Seat just missing out on the top spot, coming in at #2.   Tonight, the band play their biggest headlining show to date.

For such a young band, their live set is incredibly well oiled.  Lead singer Caleb is a natural front man.  In his white singlet and white pants, his every move draws squeals of excitement from the young crowd.  The group’s set covers a huge chunk of Sunlight, with Booster Seat, Good For You, Skin and Straightfaced all sparking huge sing-alongs.  Long-time fans were not left disappointed with early tracks Feeding the Family, Still Running and Thrills all making an appearance.

It’s a shame the band haven’t been able to carry some of this success onto the international stage, but it’s clearly given them a chance to really hone their live show in front of a home crowd.  Once international touring is back up and running, the world better be ready for Spacey Jane.
