The search for your post-lockdown anthem of the summer has come to an end with the release of Speakeasy’s newest single ‘Straight Ahead’. The Melburnian ensemble boasts soulful vocals, funky vibes and groovy trumpets that will put a burning confidence in the heart of any listener.
It’s fair to say that ‘Straight Ahead’ starts with a bang. Trumpets play a fun and bright riff accompanied by a punchy drum beat that smoothly transitions into the verse. The singer’s vocals have a gorgeous jazzy tone, smooth and clear yet full of soul and passion. As she sings each lyric, the power and increasing the power and emphasis of their meaning. The chorus that follows is catchy and fun to sing along to, just as every pop chorus should be.
I found myself singing and humming along with the song from early on as it was just so enjoyable to listen to. The melody is engaging and dynamic, reminding me of ‘Brave’ by Sara Bareilles – empowering and fun.
