Melbourne band SweetCell are set to release their new single “Silhouettes” following on from their debut album “Outer” which they released in 2020.
Before they released their debut album “Outer”, the band spent some time on the gig circuit in Melbourne peddling their wares with a 6-piece band.
2020 may have put a pause on the gig circuit, but SweetCell are now ready to get back into performing and to let us hear some new tunes.
The bands new single “Silhouettes” has a cool indie pop vibe about it, which makes it a very easy song to bop along to. The song starts off with a nice little melody on the keyboard with a funky little guitar chord and subtle drums.

The first verse features a great sentence with the lyrics of “Paper, scissors, rock is so what it’s not, cause chance is just a question of timing”, which is deep and rich in meaning. As the little game that we have all taken part in at some point in life is seen as chance, but is it really? Or as SweetCell sing, is it just a matter of timing?
After the first verse, when the chorus starts, the music is still at the same tempo and same style of sound, but pleasantly as the chorus finishes, the music changes and there is a short burst of some rock chords from the guitar before the song effortlessly moves back into the verses with the indie pop tune. This repeats a second time when the chorus is sung again.
The band have also made a video clip to go along with the new song which will touch the hearts of all Melbournians as it features footage and imagery from Melbourne’s West. This will be a great one to keep an eye out for when it comes out as I am sure it will bring even more meaning to their song with the imagery.
SweetCell are looking forward to hitting the gig circuit again in March as they haven’t had a chance to play since Covid. Now they are armed with their new single and have some other new songs up their sleeve of an upcoming album, it will be a great opportunity to get out and hear them play and get a sneak peak of what’s to come for the band. If you are in Melbourne, make sure you get along to see these guys. Their sound is crisp and lyrics sharp. Seeing them live will be a great experience.
