It’s ok, Brisbane’s ok with the storm at Tate McRae show.
Uh oh! Brisbane got hit with a storm last night, and Tate McRae’s Riverstage show was halted. Gates had barely opened before the sky cracked open, and fans were asked to clear out and huddle for cover as rain poured down, soaking everything in sight. But here’s the thing about Tate’s fans— they’ll wait for her rain or shine, and a little storm wasn’t going to scare them off (or me).
Drenched but undeterred, they crowded under cover, eagerly awaiting an update.
Tate took to Instagram, encouraging them to “seek shelter” and wait for the all-clear from security.
Then, like an answer to drenched prayers, the show was back on!
Fans hustled back into the venue, jackets dripping, hair plastered to their faces, and energy at an all-time high. The rain had fuelled them, creating an electric, almost cinematic anticipation. I haven’t seen a crowd like this before.
Tate’s entrance did not disappoint. Lights blasted across the stage, casting her silhouette against the screen as she launched into “Think Later,” setting the night ablaze with pop energy from the first beat.
This is where Tate McRae shines—she’s got the raw emotional intensity of a strong vocalist combined with the moves of a seasoned pop icon. It’s a rare combo that makes her more than just another voice on the radio.
She took the crowd through “Hurt My Feelings” and “Feel Like Shit,” as fans’ voices met her note for note. By the time she tore through “Stay Done” and “Messier,” it was clear she wasn’t holding anything back. Each song hit like a personal confession, her voice crisp and piercing through the night air, while her troupe of dancers amplified every lyric. They were sassy, powerful and energic.
Moments like “Cut My Hair” and “Rubberband” turned the stage into a visual spectacle. Ropes wound across the stage, symbolising the tangled emotions in her lyrics, while her dance crew used every inch of space, transforming the stage into a kind of choreographed emotional battlefield.
Just when you thought you’d caught your breath, Tate dropped “Guilty Conscience” and orchestrated a massive singalong on the line, “L-l-l-l-live with a guilty conscience!” Her fans chanted it right back to her, creating a tidal wave of sound that reverberated across Riverstage.
The set continued with favourites like “We’re Not Alike” and “She’s All I Wanna Be,” songs that oscillated between empowering beats and heart-on-your-sleeve vulnerability.
Then she launched into “You Broke Me First,” the song that catapulted her from bedroom singer at sixteen to global star. As she sang the first notes, you could almost feel the collective pang of heartbreak floating through the crowd.
If you were heartbroken in the crowd, this was the song for you.
The encore gets crazier, and Tate turned it up even higher. She returned with “It’s Ok I’m Ok,” a song that’s not only a crowd favourite but an internet phenomenon thanks to its iconic choreography and music video. Watching Tate and her dancers hit every beat in was a masterclass in pop choreography.
Tate wrapped up the night with “Greedy,” and every beat hit hard, every move was spot-on, and the night lingered with the kind of euphoric high that left fans buzzing all the way out the gate. Every fan knew they were witnessing something big—an artist at the top of her game.
Tate McRae’s Riverstage performance was one of the best live acts to hit Australia this year. Even a Brisbane storm couldn’t dampen the fire she brought to the stage.
