The third stop for the incredible 9 piece band on their ‘Night Time People’ tour, The Bamboos hit up the Oxford Art Factory for one spectacular night of groovy soul and jazz dancing all night long.

.

On support duties was Godriguez with his trio Godtet. Godriguez sound consisted of hip-hop, jazz and soul inspired tunes, they complemented The Bamboos and the overall experience was unforgettable. Godriquez performance was enjoyable in the sense that you were almost at a jazz bar in New Orleans having a drink and a chat with your friend but you could, take a minute to have a little boogie. The night was extraordinary, I couldn’t have asked for a more incredible evening.

The Bamboos hit the stage, walking one by one as the crowd cheered! It was a delight being surrounded by an older demographic who appreciated soul, funk and jazz music. Stand out of the night of course was Kylie Auldist, the vocalist and the star of the show. Her voice is so incredibly powerful and of modern lyrical content. The nine piece band can be recognised as horn heavy, jazz inspired and old soul-funk, creating music that is truly classic.

Their set was so long, I appreciated the diversity of their sound also! ‘Lit Up’ the first single from the new album ‘Night Time People’ was a crowd favourite, it’s catchy lyrics and groovy beat had the crowd dancing nonstop. A favourite track of mine that I hadn’t heard prior to the show was ‘Salvage Rites’. The song has an incredible intro and flows with Auldist incredible vocals. I wish I knew the song prior to seeing it live so I could enjoy it more than I already did! But a true concert experience is discovering future faveorite songs.

The Oxford Art Factory was such a perfect setting for this show. The intimacy and tightness of the joint set a perfect scene, but also a lot of room to boogie. The stage was of perfect height and length, with large space on the floor and a cool elevated area to sit also. I really enjoyed the demographic this show pulled it’s an incredible feeling, feeling young and free amongst an older crowd but everyone is here for good music regardless of age.

Although there is nine of  The Bamboos, each member was able to craft such incredible sound and it was so exciting to have them each perform solo’s towards the middle of the show. The dude on the keyboard was a true highlight for me, his passion, musical expression and the overall vibe was just awesome! At one point, the trumpet dude jumped on the mic to show off his incredible vocals. The band is exceptionally talented and athough Auldist was the star of the show, the spotlight shined on every single one of them. It felt like one big family of musicians coming together to share good music, good energy, love and happiness.

The Bamboos sound is so distinct and nothing like today’s music, a modern twist with genuine soul. It’s one of those bands you have to see live to understand. It was a true blessing to be in the band’s presence. A night I will never forget! There are two more shows left of the tour in Adelaide and Perth! If you missed the shows I highly highly recommend checking out their Spotify page for some of the best music.
