Tiarn Toni is leaving her heart on her sleeve for all to see with her emotionally powerful single Better Than You. It’s a deeply personal song which will leave you with an aching heart.
The emerging singer-songwriter is slowly blooming with her style of lush, dreamy sonic soundscapes that wash over the listener like a comforting wave. Better Than You further establishes Tiarn’s ability to write raw lyrics tinged with devastation. The alternative indie ballad is an example of layered sonic textures, from pulsating beats to airy angelic vocals, to reverberant piano and electronic embellishments.
On first listen it’s a song that harks to Lana Del Rey at her most indulgent but on a deeper dive into the track’s intent, you uncover that Better Than You is a song that brims with a sense of loss and the anger of betrayal. Tiarn wrote the song after being let down and ghosted by a friend. She sensed it coming and the anger that rumbles through Tiarn’s ubiquitous East Coast Australian accent is directed at not only this person but herself.
“Next time you’re crying yourself back to sleep/Thinking about how I told you I would/all of the secrets you went and told me/Maybe I might- guess we’ll just have to see.”
Even though it starts from a place of sorrow by the song’s end Tiarn evolves the track into one seeking vengeance.
Better Than You is a captivating symphony that transports listeners to an ethereal realm with its delicate balance of melancholy and nostalgia as it weaves a tapestry of emotions. With Tiarn’s sultry and velvety vocals, she enchants the senses, evoking a sense of wistfulness and yearning. Each note resonates with a unique blend of vintage allure and modern sensibility. The result is a delicious fusion of haunting ballads and dreamy grandeur that leaves the listener beguiled.

ABOUT ME
Hello, I’m Tiarn Toni, a singer-songwriter and producer based in Naarm (Melbourne), Victoria.
New to the music scene, I’ve spent most of my life working in the dance industry as an educator and choreographer until a few years ago when I sustained an injury that left me searching for another path in life. Music has always filled my soul and was the core inspiration behind my love of dance and choreography so it was only a matter of time before I realised that music could fill the hole that dance left.
ABOUT THE MUSIC
As a deeply creative and multi-disciplinary artist, I like to explore music through the lens of dance and design, using my unique past experiences to create raw and delicate lyrics paired with acoustic infused electronic music. After the success of my debut compositional work for Scimm. Dance Company in 2022, with a soundtrack centred around the fusion of dark experimental beats and delicate raw piano orchestration, I am now now experimenting with a new sound as an alternative pop artist, releasing a series of singles throughout this year.
