The ethereal “COASTING” by TIDAL PEAK is the kind of track that makes you feel like you’ve waded too far into the surf, caught in that sweet spot where the water lifts you up and the shoreline distorts. KYLE LACKO’s project TIDAL PEAK is a dream-pop slow-burner drenched in nostalgia and reverb, ebbing and flowing like an old memory you can’t quite place.
Opening with hazy, oceanic synth pads and a drum machine beat so featherlight it barely exists, “COASTING” builds like a off shore swell, surging somewhere between Slowdive and Beach House on a rainy day. LACKO, handling all instruments himself, layers shimmering guitar textures over the track, letting them rise and gently wash over the mix. It’s meticulously arranged but never overstuffed, there’s breathing room between the synth swells and hushed, breathy vocals, making the whole thing feel beautifully weightless.

Lyrically, the song leans into themes of self-doubt and longing, as LACKO ponders his relevance upon returning to a place that once shaped him. There’s an existential wistfulness at play here, like running into an old friend who’s forgotten your name. It’s sentimental without being cloying, drifting along on its quiet introspection.
Where “COASTING” really shines is in its production. The home-recorded mix retains a DIY charm but never feels rough. Each layer of guitar, synth, and vocal wash is blended into a dreamscape that fits right into the shoegaze-meets-progressive-pop aesthetic. The track’s build is patient, rewarding those willing to let it unfurl at its own pace because this isn’t a song that crashes, it just dissolves into mist.
As the lead single from his upcoming LP ”TREASUREVILLE”, “COASTING” sets the stage for a deeply personal and transportive listen. It’s perfect for late-night drives, staring at the ceiling, or reminiscing about people who probably don’t think about you anymore.
