There’s something exciting going on in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, with the locale birthing a new band, the post-modern band Tiger. Think of the flashiness of a new wave pop synth group, with the driving grittiness of a 1980s heavy rock band with a big dose of catchy pop motifs and you’ve got Tiger’s debut single “Innocent Look” all wrapped up.
“Innocent Look” sounds like it’s been recorded straight off the mix tape stolen from one of the cars in Grand Theft Auto or Drive. There’s a pulsing energy that reminds you of the brattiness of Motley Crue with its insistent steady big drum beat. The group, consisting of Rafaeel Al Khasimi, Jana Robins and Tommy Diamond and singer-songwriter Silvas came together to serve up music that would shake out the mundane from Sydney’s live music scene. “Innocent Look” is a slapping song that at its heart is a dance track. With a keen eye on the production, Tiger has layered the track with several fun flairs – the layered slightly digitised harmonies, the hooky guitars and the airy synths that give the song an overall electro-pop vibe. With “Innocent Look” Tiger has delivered a synthwave, electro-rock song for the modern age.

Tiger has commented that they want their music to be high energy, something that people will be attracted to for its danceability. “Innocent Look” is a representation of all of that and the sound the band want to progress with. With that said, you can hear in the song that Tiger has been purposeful in producing a track that hits all the points to be a great dance tune. A strong focus on the melody, catchy lyrics that stick in your brain and embracing the best aspects of disco, electro and rock to fuse a track that is in a word, infectious.
There’s nothing innocent about what Tiger has done, and as a first single they have absolutely captured our attention with “Innocent Look”.
