Prepare yourself for the shimmery, wilful creation that Venus Dragon has created with her luscious new single “Heya Honey”. It’s a single that rocks with attitude and feminine power and like a peacock showing off its plumage makes for a mesmerising single by the chameleon songwriter.
“Heya Honey” exists in the space of a woman coming out of a toxic relationship and the fallout that happens in the aftermath and the slow sometimes painful process of reclaiming her agency. That sounds like heavy material however Venus Dragon weaves a feeling of self-empowerment and liberation through the song coming out as a victor on the other side. “Heya Honey” has the grandness of a Florence and The Machine song displaying Venus Dragon’s powerful vocal and a thumping drum beat in marching time. The song touches on the circumstances that brought Venus Dragon to work with James North Production alluding to a creative discovery as she sings, “I’ve been looking for you.” Featuring hand claps, seductive guitar riffs and a banging piano “Heya Honey” is the kind of song that is messy and wild but the end product is exactly what Venus Dragon was probably going for, showing off her untameable spirit.

It’s a song that aims to pump up the listener and it surely does that. This is the kind of song that would pop off in front of a live crowd with its simple sing-a-long chorus and energy that ignites with passion. Given that “Heya Honey” is a celebration of the power of music, Venus Dragon is giving it all she has and it’s hard not to fall for the grandiose nature of the song. If you have gone through a breakup, or if your life has taken an unsuspected turn this is the song to get you to feel good again.
This marks the fifth single this year for Venus Dragon and she seems to be claiming 2022 as her year. “Heya Honey” will be released across all digital stores on Saturday 23rd July but until then check out her other songs on Spotify (above).
