The Wandering

Local Newcastle band The Wandering kicked off the night with such a heavy sound for the size of the stage and the venue. They really know how to pack a punch and make it seem like they are playing a massive venue. The band had a slight delay because a string snapped on one of the members guitars but they sorted it in the most professional way. It just shows that the band means business. Throughout the set they had fans doing mic grabs and going crazy in the pit. Catch The Wandering on tour with American band Fit For An Autopsy in July.

BLOOM

Melodic hardcore band Bloom from Sydney kicked off their set with an intro which gets you hyped, then went straight into Daylight which had the crowd screaming the lyrics back to the band. After that they played June which is a softer track, more of a sing along. You can see the raw emotion Jono Hawkey shows when they perform these songs and seeing the crowd screaming the lyrics back shows they can relate to the songs. They capped off their set with Cold which is an oldie but a goldie. One of the key parts to the set is how thankful the band are towards the crowd. Catch them on tour with American band Being As An Ocean and Stepson in August.

Holding Absence

The post hardcore band Holding Absence from the United Kingdom was after Bloom. First time being in Australia, Holding Absence kicked off with Celebration Song which immediately had the room off their feet and singing along. For a Sunday night I didn’t expect much of a crowd but they really packed the room in for this set. They also played such hits as Afterlife, Gravity and Like a Shadow. For this band being their first time in Australia I must say they seemed like they have been here and played before. Such a professional band hopefully they come back to Australia soon.

Void Of Vision

Now for the main event, Melbourne metal band Void of Vision. Straight off the bat Jack Bergin comes out on stage in this massive latex cape which gives off the matrix vibes. Right from the start they had the crowd in the palm of their hands especially with the first track Into The Dark which had the crowd off their feet and singing along to the chorus. The whole set was like a time machine – some new stuff off their recent EP and even the classics off the 2017 EP Disturbia which was a blast from the past for some of the fans who have been there for a while. One of the highlights for me was how they can make such a small stage look so massive with just the energy they gave off and the lighting which definitely made the set crazier. Throughout the set they had the people in the pit going off tap with circle pits during the intro for Hole in Me and had them going wild during the breakdowns. To finish off the night they wanted to go out with one last bang and played The Lonely People before the breakdown hit. They parted the crowd like Moses parted the Red Sea for the wall of death which definitely was the icing on the cake for me.
