The saying better late than never gets thrown around a lot, but when it comes to New Zealand metallic hardcore band Xile’s tour for their debut album, I AM YOUR GOD, it applies. It had to be tough going releasing an album in March 2020- but having them on Australian soil finally was much worth the wait. Hitting the iconic Enigma Bar in Adelaide on the final stop of the tour joined by some superb Adelaide acts, it was not a show to miss.
Starting the night off was local lads The Killchain, hitting the stage for the first time. There was no way to tell that this band had never performed live together before. They were tight, heavy and powered through a 25-minute set like absolute pros. Having strong support from the local community, the pit was moving from the start. It was one of those moments where the crowd came to support and stayed moving because their set was an absolute ripper. The Killchain are a band to watch!

The stage was then graced by heavy hardcore act Winnerz Circle. A mainstay in the scene, this band just brings the heat. That real punch-you-in-face style hardcore just makes you remember why you love this music in the first place. Despite vocalist Boz admitting to feeling under the weather, he brought only good vibes to the room. Winnerz Circle are just a class act in the Australian hardcore scene and it is a real struggle to not just throw yourself in the pit.
After a set like the one Winnerz Circle dropped, there is only one support act that could follow and that is SIGNV/S. These guys have been going from strength to strength and they are one of the hottest up-and-coming acts in Adelaide, if not the whole Australian scene. These guys work their arses off, both onstage and off. They have a strong following and a vocal audience that they thoroughly deserve it. The young guns were hungry and threw down a set that satisfied even the most stoic souls in the room. If you are yet to check out SIGNV/S then do it asap because if they keep going the way they are, they are going to blow up very soon.

Now for the main event and coming off a day where the rest of the world watched some Aussie and Kiwi dude’s throwdown in the cage, the hard-hitting action continued on a stage in little old Adelaide. Xile brought their signature Kiwi hardstyle to a very receptive Adelaide crowd. Even though this was the last show on their tour and they admitted to being a little weary, their music didn’t drop in intensity for a millisecond. Blistering through their debut album, I Am Your God to Legacy of Disgust, the pit action hardly slowed either. With breakdowns and guitar squeals galore, you can tell Xile had been chomping at the bit to take this album to the world. Despite the Aussie dominance for the last few decades of the genres surrounding hardcore, Kiwi Hardstyle is coming for our crown. If it gives us great shows like this one, then bring it.
