YOU AM I + JEBEDIAH completely rocked Matthew Flinders Hotel!!

Never seen both of these bands perform and let me tell you I was incredibly impressed! Absolutely epic performances with over 400 pax in attendence!

The Pretty Littles, support act for You am I + Jebediah were ready to rock the Longtitude room at 8pm. The garage rock band gave a great performance with hard rock and shouting which reminded me of L.A style music. Interesting song titles such as Shithead and Disco, another track was slower in tempo but still rocking. The crowd clearly enjoyed all the songs. These guys are going places.

Jebediah were next on stage.

Kevin Mitchell, Vanessa Thornton and the band rocked out to so many of their songs including tunes ‘Feet Touch The Ground’ and ‘Jerks Of Attention’ which was a very cool song with great drumming and outro. Popular one with the audience. Next up was ‘Animal’ with the catchy ‘Nothing’s Free’ lyrics. Hi NRG performance with a huge applause. ‘Its Over’ from the album Braxton Hicks was next. Rocking out to this one, great song. ‘Military Strongmen’ followed. Love this catchy rock song, with great guitar and drums on this one. Crowd going crazy! One of their best songs.  ‘Control’ from the album Kosciuzsko. Is a slower song with top vocals. ‘Please Leave’, song off the ‘Of Somebody Shambles’ album released 1999, included a great opening riff. Catchy lyrics with ‘Screw Up Your Life Again’.  ‘Fall Down’, from the Jebediah album, released 2001, is an epic song, an absolute favorite with the crowd. Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Harpoon is another standout track for the set. Lots of people in the crowd singing out loud to this one. Great atmosphere. ‘She’s Like A Comet’ was then performed from the Kosciuszko album. Vocals were great. Dig this one for the songwriting aspect too. Popular one in the crowd.

‘Leaving Home’ from the Slightly Odway album was performed next. Wow! Loud loud loud screaming in the audience. Love this final set song!

Last on stage, the legendary, ARIA award winning, You am I. Respected Australia-wide for their live performances and great songwriting, They first made history as the first Australian band to have three albums successively debut at No.1 on the ARIA Charts. Originally formed in 1989, their two successful albums ‘Hi Fi Way’ and ‘Hourly, Daily’ were voted into Triple J’s ‘Hottest Australian Albums of All Time’.  Tim Rogers is an absolute rock god with great stage presence. He walked on stage with the incredibly talented, groovy Davey Lane and the band at 10:24pm. Tim was dressed in an open white jacket and pants, hip jewellery and bandana. They totally exceeded my expectations, with raw energy and power!  All the songs performed were rocked out and flawless.

The set started rocking with ‘Ain’t Gone And Open’ followed by ‘Sound As Ever’, hot rock song. Great guitar work and distortions from Davey Lane.

Loved the next ripper! ‘Who put the devil in you’ from the album Deliverence. Tim Rogers announced this reached 172 on the charts in Belgium and Number 34 in Australia. Next was ‘What I Don’t Know ‘Bout You’, a slower groove very well written.

Tim Rogers then made a moving tribute to the well respected, Australian blues legend, Chris Wilson, who recently passed away, and performed ‘Gunslingers’ in memory of him. ‘Damage’ followed with songwriting brilliance from the album ‘Dress Me Slowly’.

‘Constance George’ was another great rock song. Incredible!

Tim Rogers mentioned his road crew and that roadies are called ‘elite’. Great comment there!

Before announcing the next songs, he spoke about the year of 1995, ‘what a heavy ride that was’. Some of my fave tracks followed, ‘Purple Sneakers’ and ‘Cathy’s Clown’, both amazing from the successful Gold certified album ‘Hi Fi Way’. Songwriting brilliance. You could feel that the crowd were just loving every moment of their performance with lots of people bopping up and down.

‘Heavy Heart’ from #4 Record, followed which is a well written and emotive song, For good reason, it has been featured in Triple J’s top 100, released in 1998. Love that Southern Sound, blues feel delivered vocally with polish by Tim Rogers.  Also top performance on the epic gold metallic Gibson guitar by legend, Davey Lane. Lots of phones were up in the air to capture the brilliance of this song. Fabulous outro vocals by Tim Rogers, hitting the high notes.

One of my fave songs followed ‘Get Up’, great performance delivered. Catchy rock tune. Great to jump around or dance to!!

‘Good Morning’. Rocking out! . Love the guitar on this one.

‘Soldiers’ cool song followed from the ARIA award winning ‘Hourly, Daily’ album released 1996.

Tim Rogers then mentioned his manager Kate Stewart, from 1992-1993, was going through a hard time and is not well, so should show her a sign of support on social media via Support Act https://supportact.org.au/the-kate-stewart-appeal/

This lead to the groovy retro style ‘Rumble’ being performed, Tim Rogers mentioned it was about lactose intolerance! R.A.D.I.O!!! Ripper song loved Tim Rogers’ vocal power teamed with red, white and yellow lighting! Drumming very cool from Andy Hopkinson. Great guitar and electric outro!

‘Berlin Chair’ was the last song. Rock classic from ‘Sound As Ever’ album. The lights were incredibly blaring and bright for this one. One of their fans in the audience mentioned it was one of You am I’s biggest of songs.

The encore wrapped up with the brilliant songs, ‘How Much Is Enough’ and ‘Jewels And Bullets’. The band then took a final bow and said ‘Thank you’ to the crowd. Phenomenal polished performance!
