On a cloudy Adelaide night, the Adelaide Entertainment Centre buzzed with anticipation as the merchandise tent line stretched endlessly, packed with fans of all ages.
Dune Rats kicked off the night, priming the crowd perfectly for YUNGBLUD as they tore through their punchy alternative indie hits. The standout moment of their set came when original The Angels guitarist John Brewster joined them on stage, alongside Aston Valladres from TOWNS, for a raucous cover of the Australian rock classic Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. The crowd erupted instantly — and if you know the song, you can easily imagine exactly what thousands of voices were gleefully chanting back.
As Black Sabbath’s War Pigs thundered through the arena during the warm-up, the atmosphere thickened with excitement — a clear sign that something special was about to unfold.
What followed was nothing short of an epic rock ’n’ roll spectacle.
As the lights dimmed, the AEC transformed into a sea of glowing phone screens, resembling a vast night sky. Thick, low-lying white smoke spilled across the stage as sharp white beams of light sliced through the haze, illuminating a dramatic velvet curtain. A powerful nine-piece band took their positions, including an unexpected four-string quartet, adding depth and grandeur to the setup. When YUNGBLUD finally appeared, the arena erupted into deafening screams — excitement instantly contagious.
Leather-clad and wearing black sunglasses, YUNGBLUD launched into the night with explosive energy, opening with Hello Heaven, Hello. White confetti showered down on the ecstatic crowd as his infectious excitement filled the room. The sound was loud, crisp, and commanding, immediately setting the tone for what would become one of the most exhilarating modern rock ’n’ roll performances Adelaide has seen.
As he tore through The Funeral, Idols (Pt. I), Lovesick Lullaby, and Strawberry Lipstick, YUNGBLUD was electric. He constantly encouraged the audience to raise their hands, get loud, stand up, and give everything they had — and Adelaide responded in full force. His movements were chaotic and high-energy, yet he balanced that intensity with moments of intimacy, flashing playful, cheeky smiles that melted hearts. He raised his hands to fans across every corner of the arena, repeatedly shouting, “You are beautiful, Adelaide — I f*ckin’ love you!”
The connection between artist and audience felt genuine and deeply authentic, especially when he declared, “I want to come to Adelaide every 18 months until I die!” The crowd roared in approval, completely wrapped in the moment.
The rock ’n’ roll experience only intensified as the night progressed, particularly during a standout moment involving young Adelaide teen Jamie. Plucked from the crowd, Jamie was invited on stage to play guitar alongside YUNGBLUD during Fleabag from the Idols album. It was a once-in-a-lifetime highlight as he moved freely across the stage, jamming confidently while the band’s guitarist unleashed powerful electric riffs. Meanwhile, YUNGBLUD plunged into the crowd, balancing on adoring fans as he finished the song with raw, passionate vocals — a truly unforgettable scene.
Following that high, YUNGBLUD delivered his genre-bending 2023 single Lowlife, which proved to be a crowd favourite as thousands sang along word for word.
The energy shifted when soft piano notes and gentle white lighting slowed the pace. The crowd erupted into chants of “Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie!” before YUNGBLUD performed a breathtaking cover of Black Sabbath’s Changes. Addressing the audience, he shared, “YUNGBLUD and rock ’n’ roll music is about love,” encouraging fans to introduce themselves to the people beside them. It was a deeply heartfelt moment — tears rolled down my face — and it became clear why Ozzy Osbourne trusted him to perform at his final concert.
Emotion remained high as YUNGBLUD picked up a guitar to perform War from his latest album Idols, followed by his 2019 single Loner. His versatility as a performer shone through, seamlessly shifting between vulnerability and chaos. The crowd embraced one another, united in the love, acceptance, and connection he so passionately champions.
Another standout of the night was the impressive production. Pyro blasted throughout multiple songs, massive screens ensured every fan had an up-close view, and striking black-and-white visuals elevated the performance to an arena-sized spectacle of the highest standard.
Sweat-drenched and emotionally spent, YUNGBLUD closed the night with Ghost and his latest single Zombies. The arena was filled with screaming fans who had just witnessed one of the most powerful rock ’n’ roll shows Adelaide has experienced in years.
The calibre of YUNGBLUD is undeniable — a fearless, boundary-pushing artist who continues to redefine modern rock.
