Praise For POWDER CHUTES

“Scalpel is powered by the kind of filthy riff Josh Homme comes up with on his good days, before finding an adrenaline-fueled way to a climax that burns so hot we’re obliged to check that we’re not actually on fire. An album is on the way, they tell us.” – Fraser Lewry, Classic Rock Magazine

“(The highlight) for me had to have been Powder Chutes coming out with you guys last night… Holy Shit!…They brought the ruckus, it was fantastic” – Westie Lee, The Rock FM

“Powder Chutes… Love them! They are amazing people and if you are out there listening, please support them because they are the truth; …they got it… they got it going on.” – Johnny Stevens, Highly Suspect

“Powder Chutes… Blown Away… Wow these lads are killing at the moment Just Hooks on Hooks on Hooks, Riffs on Riffs!” – Jayde, Burn My Records

“Merchants is a bundle of joyous grunge-infused angst that simultaneously looks forwards and back…Powder Chutes remind me of the musically sophisticated rock bros of my youth like Soundgarden or Tool, and of their nineties contemporaries L7, who somehow managed to be emotionally vulnerable while peeling the outer layer off your eyeballs with feedback and a frightening trill.” – 1964 Magazine

“I don’t know what it is about Powder Chutes, but there’s something about your music that I cannot get enough of… it’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about new music.” Lisa Jones, MuzicNZ

“Powder Chutes, a rock band with a capital ‘R’… they take to the stage with the relaxed confidence of youth and provide solid evidence of why they are bound for bigger venues” Classic Rock Magazine

“These four young men have a bright future in the NZ rock and metal scene that’s for sure” Danny Fairley, Mirrors Audio / Arma del Amor

“Merchants is going to send Powder Chutes into the stratosphere. Get amongst it now, so you can say you liked them when” – Jack Grabham, Flash-trax

“As Explosive as it gets!” – Attila, Down Under Photography

“A totally explosive, dynamic & true expression of what pure kiwi hard rock is all about. An incredibly catchy sonic bomb you NEED to hear!” – KAOS FM NZ

“Loud, catchy, and just the sort of thing we need right now” 1964 Magazine

“Powder Chutes have me so optimistic for the state of the upcoming music scene” – Crezza, MOST FM

‘This is a fantastic young band; in another generation they would be compared to bands like Silverchair. They’ve just got energy to boot” – Eamon O’ Kane, Antipodes Radio

“Merchants is so packed with ideas it could almost double as a library. Nirvana’s Breed might be the first book on the shelf, and there’s probably a small prog metal section, over there, somewhere near the photocopier.” – Fraser Lewry, Classic Rock Magazine

“Powder Chutes are a huge favourite of the Hot From The Forge Radio Show” – Scotland Rocks Radio

“If they are performing like this now, one wonders what the future holds for them, as if they can keep producing songs like this then anything could happen” – Kev Rowland, Music.Net.NZ

”Wow lads. Great bloody work. You boys have a bunch of killer tunes to be well and truly proud of, and absolutely love what you have done with Dutchies. Honoured to be honest. Diggy.” – P.Digsss, Shapeshifter

“Holy F*%k this slays! I opened up the file while making breakfast in the kitchen and the first thing I wanted to do was kick the chairs over, jump onto the table, and dive onto the couch like a nuttah. I can’t wait to see you guys play this live, it’s such a sick and fresh version.” – Tiki Taane

The new single from Powder Chutes is possibly their most anthemic to date, with a complex theme of generational feud instigated by manipulative forefathers for their own ends. It tackles destiny, institutional indoctrination and the fight for individual free will. A grand panoramic lyrical theme delivered with no compromise of Powder Chutes’ massive signature sound; Vendetta has a massive vocal hook, and a demonic rock groove that builds to a huge riff-laden climax.

Powder Chutes were recently at the centre of a media sensation when Johnny from Highly Suspect recognised them in the crowd in Christchurch, and added them to the next show in Wellington saying “I’ve been hearing about this band for at least a year now from NZ fans. So… We’re gonna have ‘em drive there asses out here and open up the stage tomorrow night. Because dope people do dope shit”. Highly Suspect then took Powder Chutes to Spark Arena in Auckland, saying “Powder Chutes is so fuckin sick, we’re gonna put them on again tomorrow night. New Zealand, y’all got you a cool band”.

What happened next will become part of New Zealand rock folklore as Highly Suspect called Powder Chutes on stage to perform one of their biggest hits, Lydia. What unfolded was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the band, and a ‘you-had-to-be-there’ experience for everyone who witnessed it. The Highly Suspect frontman also took a moment during the song to dub Powder Chutes “the coolest lads in the country” saying “this is the start of very long friendship.”

‘Vendetta’ is accompanied by a stunning video from Bunker Street Film Co. using teenage frenemies in smalltown 1986 as the setting for an epic battle against manipulation and weaponised indoctrination.

Previous singles ‘Moths To The Flame’, ‘Merchants’, ‘Straights’ and ‘Scalpel’ were all featured in Classic Rock Magazine as ‘Top tracks of the Week’ amongst strong international competition.
