Last Saturday 23 May, after a decade long hiatus, beloved Australian band Powderfinger regrouped for One Night Lonely, and what a night it was!

Conceived with the simple aim of bringing a smile to as many faces as possible in these uncertain times, One Night Lonely is also a fundraiser for the charities Beyond Blue and Support Act.

Incredibly, almost half a million dollars has been donated so far and there are now just a few days left to contribute or purchase a piece of One Night Lonely merchandise with all profits split equally between Beyond Blue and Support Act.

“In choosing to support Beyond Blue, Powderfinger and the band’s fans will have a massive impact on many lives. Every dollar raised for Beyond Blue from Powderfinger’s gig will go to our 24/7 Support Service, which is funded by donations. Each year, the service provides free and immediate counselling, advice and referral to about 200,000 people. So on behalf of them and the Beyond Blue team, thank you Powderfinger and everyone who made this possible” said Beyond Blue CEO Georgie Harman.

“Huge thanks to Powderfinger, we feel totally privileged to have been associated with such a remarkable event.
People in the music industry have been hugely impacted by COVID-19, with tens of thousands of artists, crew and music workers having lost their livelihoods literally overnight. They face a very uncertain future. Even with the gradual easing of restrictions, it could be 12 months or longer before everyone is back to earning a steady living from gigging and touring. The funds that you and your incredible fans have raised will help to ensure that Support Act is able to provide crisis relief and mental health services to thousands of people in the music industry throughout the pandemic and beyond.” said Support Act CEO Clive Miller.

One Night Lonely has already been streamed nearly 600,000 times and hit #1 trending on YouTube off the back of the Premiere. There were over 500 #onenightlonely posts on Insta with #onenightlonely and #powderfinger both sitting at #1 trending spots on Twitter in Australia throughout the premiere on Saturday.

“Wow, we are so overwhelmed by your response last Saturday night. It seems like we managed to make a lot of people happy and this was of course the ultimate goal when we decided to play some songs again together.

“We also want to tip our hats to you for being so bloody generous and donating so much money to Beyond Blue and Support Act. You legends!  They are really important charities doing important work and so far we have raised nearly half a million dollars!  The five of us had a cracking time and we just want to say thanks for joining us,” said the band.
