2023 marks the 20th anniversary of Powderfinger’s acclaimed 5th album, Vulture Street.
The band’s first record after the monstrous Odyssey Number Five, Vulture Street saw the Brisbane band shift back to a rockier sound. The result? Critical acclaim, and widely beloved singles like ‘(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind’, ‘Sunsets’, ‘Love Your Way’ and more.

Reflecting on the time leading up to Vulture Street, the band noted, “In 2001 we were home for 8 weeks. We’d travelled far and wide playing the songs from Odyssey in Europe, the UK, the US and more. We were playing bigger venues and felt the effect of bigger crowds and bigger rooms on the way we were performing. Following the landscape-y sounds of ON5 we hooked into writing songs that carried more punch, in a move away from the string laden arrangements of our last record. We’d started out as a straight rock band, so we decided to head back towards that”.
Powderfinger celebrated Vulture Street’s anniversary with super fans at the Palace Barracks in Brisbane last night. Fans were treated to a screening of the long out-of-print ‘These Days Live’ concert from 2004, as well as a Q&A with the band hosted by Trent Dalton.
The band stuck around afterwards to do a meet and greet with the 250 lucky attendees – who snapped up the super-limited tickets in under 3 minutes when it released.

Vulture Street’s shift to a rockier sound only amped up the band’s fanbase: the album hit #1 on the ARIA Charts and stayed put for a lengthy 47 weeks. It also won 4 ARIA awards for Best Group, Album Of The Year, Best Rock Album, and Best Cover Art for the now iconic cover image created by Steven Gorrow. The love continued into 2004, with 5 songs from the album appearing in triple j’s Hottest 100 (2003) – 3 of those landing in the Top 10. As a result, Vulture Street is now accredited 7x Platinum, having sold over 550,000 copies.
Following the album release, the band hit the road on their Live On Vulture Street Tour performing to sell-out crowds around the country. At the time, it was their biggest ever tour – it created history with multiple live records made. Off the back of the tour, the band produced a Live CD/DVD titled ‘These Days’ which featured songs performed live at the Sydney Entertainment Centre as part of the Live On Vulture Street tour. The long out of print DVD went 2x Platinum on release.

To mark the anniversary, the band have remastered the album making it available on 180g vinyl for the first time in 20 years. The 3LP Deluxe Vinyl is beautifully crafted and features a 20th Anniversary emerald highlight. The black, green and purple vinyl package features tracks from the long out of print ‘These Days Live’ concert DVD from 2004 and includes three B&W inserts adorned by both Live and Studio photographic imagery from the time.
‘Vulture Street’ is also available also as a standard 1LP on classic black vinyl, and a deluxe 3CD package. The Deluxe 3CD includes a rare acoustic performance from 2003, lifted also from the 2004 DVD.
Digitally, the deluxe edition arrives with the complete ‘These Days Live’ audio, and the original 11 track album arrives in Spatial Audio on Apple Music.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
