Gold Coast/Kingscliff rocker prchr. (pronounced PERCHER) is here with his debut extended play, the ONLY CHILD EP, and it’s a hell of a ride that you can’t get off!

.

.

The 23 year old alt-rock enthusiast throws himself and his songs into the ears of the unready and turns it up to 11 to leave all of them ringing with anticipation for more. Although being five tracks long, the debut release of prchr.’s massive sound is definitely not for the faint of heart and is steered towards those who love testing the limits of both their headphones and/or speakers. prchr. draws inspiration in sound from the likes of Royal Blood, DZ Deathrays, Dead Poet Society and cleopatrick to strengthen his writing and create his own distinguished bluesy, fuzzy tone which he intends to carve into the history books of rock. It’s raw and modernized (but still down to roots) rock and roll.

From the start, WHAT YOU THINK sets the tone for the rest of the 20 minute listening experience. The power that you feel from the drums, guitars and bass (especially the bass) is definitely enough to start earthquakes wherever it’s played. Followed by previously released single VETERAN which was written on the grounds of defiance against unfaithful friends whilst laced on top of a dirty fuzz riff before being thrown into the slower, bluesy side of the release with the title track, ONLY CHILD.

The track has an interesting spin on your typical quiet blues tone with it being mixed with a fair amount of distortion as a kick in your face when all the instruments come in. Suddenly, everything picks up again with the staple of the EP being ROCK BOTTOM and all of a sudden you’re thrown into a spiral of a filthy bass tone playing a dark riff which sends you into a mosh frenzy whenever you hear it. prchr. describes the song as his ‘favorite track on the EP’ and it’s easy to see why with its huge addicting hook. Finally, BIRTHDAY SONG plays and the EP takes a dark, slow turn with the artist’s personal attributes and troubles being shown. All of this builds up to a massive breakdown where prchr. lets loose and makes himself heard. A fitting and haunting end to what is something loud and something that no one is ready for. The artist mentioned the sound he was aiming towards with the release:

“I really wanted to reflect what I do live and how I play them live. I make sure I put a lot of energy and power behind these songs so they instantly catch people off guard and grab their attention.” prchr. reflected on what the EP meant to him and potentially others. “I’m pretty much just a kid with a couple of fuzz pedals, a guitar and some things to say and I hope that through the EP, other people find some sense of relief and a safe haven from everything going on outside. Because I don’t just play these songs for myself, I do it for people to find others who share the same morals and support and have fun whilst listening.”

The collection of songs were recorded in late 2021 at Electric Sugar Studios in Miami on the Gold Coast and was mixed and mastered by Zig Mentality frontman Jig Dubé to make sure that power behind it wasn’t compromised and the artist’s tone is remembered. Be safe when listening with headphones, it’s gonna be loud…

The ‘ONLY CHILD EP’ is the debut EP by Gold Coast alternative rocker prchr. and will be released Friday, October 21st on all major streaming services. Physical versions are also available for purchase via prchr.’s Bandcamp page HERE.
