Behind every great Hip Hop track is the producer who shaped its sound – but how often do we shine light on their craft? RIPE HIP HOP is flipping the script with their very first PRODUCER NIGHT, a celebration of the beatmakers who define Melbourne Hip Hop.

“Producers are the architects of the music we love,” says Katija, one of RIPE’s founders. “They’re the ones creating the magic that artists build on. This event is about showcasing some of the incredible and vital beat makers in our community.”

“RIPE HIP HOP has always been about more than just events. It’s a hub for creativity and connection, where artists, producers, creatives and fans come together to push the culture forward” says co-founder Chooka. “Our poducer night aims to offer a platform for the innovators that are shaping the sound of our scene.” Says co-founder Ronksy.

The bill features 4 local producers hailing from Melbourne to Geelong, each on their own unique journey to uplifting and evolving art and bridging the gap for Australian Hip Hop.

Melbourne based producer “GRIEFGANG” was the first DJ to spin the decks in the early months of RIPE. “It’s a full circle moment to be able to highlight Griefy and his skills as a producer. He is very active in our community, recently releasing the BuSY_bOY_zZz project with Bendigo Artist Setho, which features many of our RIPE community, including our very own Waxxone duo.” said Katija.

“JAYA LEXXA” is an up-and-coming name, finishing over 50 projects in his first focused year as a producer. Jaya has swiftly transitioned in less than 6 months to working full time on music – not only producing but a sound technician, writer, performer & teacher who recently opened his own studio space in Northcote.

Emerging producer “BRZLM” based out of Marshall Street Studios, is yet another name on the rise. Briz is a chef of all recipes, with production styles across multiple genres, working closely with artists such as Zach Byrne & hip hop group Cooking With the Classics.

Based in Geelong, “PRODGAZ” diversifies the lineup, bringing a soulful feel to his production. With years of practice, Gaz often experiments with vintage and retro flavours bringing a soothing element to his style. Having worked closely with Geelong Artist Rory James, Gaz has raised the standard for expressive sampling and drumless production.

Melbourne’s Hip Hop community thrives on collaboration, and producers are the pulse driving its evolution. The evening will also feature a variety of vocal artists who have glistened alongside their talented producers. It’s not just about the performance – it’s about giving credit where it’s due and creating a space where the producers of our scene take centre stage.

PRODUCER NIGHT, presented by RIPE HIP HOP, is going down on Friday, January 24th, at their home and iconic venue, The Vineyard in St Kilda. Show some support and love for Melbourne’s hip hop community and get your tickets via the @RIPEHIPHOP Instagram. This is one not to miss! See you there.
