Announced today, acclaimed American rockers Queens of the Stone Age will play in Mona’s Sidney Nolan Gallery: the home of Snake, a 46 metre-long rainbow meditation on the relationship between myth and modernity.

This intimate acoustic gig will be one of just two shows the band will play in Tasmania this September.  All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Royal Hobart Hospital Children’s Ward, to assist in buying equipment and to support the hospital’s paediatric services team.

Mona’s music curator Brian Ritchie said Mona’s Sidney Nolan Gallery will be an extraordinary venue for the band to perform in, and punters to see them in, given they regularly sell out massive stadiums around the world.

“Queens of the Stone Age have played at some of the biggest venues in the world. To have them perform inside Mona, in front of this spectacular artwork, will be very special.

“Members of Queens of the Stone Age visited Mona and told us they loved the experience so much they wanted to play a show there. For loyal fans it’ll be a complementary experience to their other Tasmanian show at the Derwent Entertainment Centre.

Queens of the Stone Age come to Australia off the back of critically acclaimed shows in Europe, including headlining Spain’s Mad Cool Festival last month.

Queens of the Stone Age play Mona on Monday evening 3 September. Tickets for the September show go on sale 4pm AEST 16 August from www.mona.net.au/qotsa. There will be a ticket limit of two tickets per person. For more information on the event, head to www.frontiertouring.com/QOTSAMONA.
