The Queenscliff Music Festival pride themselves on financially supporting their local community, and run two programs specifically aimed at benefitting the above average young talent that continues to emerge from Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula each and every year.
So now it’s that time of year again when they encourage up-and-coming local musicians to apply for their annual Emerging Artists Grant, in conjunction with the Alison McKenzie Mentor Program.
The festival has so far contributed more than $70,000 to the development of new artists. All previous Emerging Artist Grant (EAG) recipients have played shows at the festival in recent years and many of them now have established careers in the industry. The EAG is now in its 9th successful year and previous recipients of the grant have been MDRN Love and Fenn Wilson (2018), The Refuge & Andrea Robertson (2017), Hollie Joyce & Rach Brennan (2016), The Tiny Giants & Rough River (2015), Aine Tyrrell & Sagamore (2014), The Murlocs, Sweethearts & Yirrmal (2013), Alister Turrill & Tom Milek (2012) and Catherine Sanzaro & Izzy Losi (2011).
The latest news on the 2018 EAG recipients is that Fenn Wilson is very close to launching the first single from his debut album and has secured significant management and agency representation, and keep your eye out for new music from MDRN Love over the coming months.
Acknowledging that young people don’t just need money to further their musical ambitions, but guidance too, the QMF Board set up the Alison McKenzie Mentor Program (AMMP) – in honour of long serving member Alison McKenzie who passed away in 2016. Alison was instrumental in establishing & running the EAG from its inception in 2011 and was devoted to the development of local musicians.
This year they have raised the bar and are very proud to announce that the 2019 AMMP Mentor will be blistering blues-rocker Ash Grunwald (pictured above). Loved for his crowd frenzied shows and ferocious guitar playing, industry, critics and fans alike have been raving about Ash’s unique blend of roots, beats and a whole lotta groove for over a decade. The six times ARIA nominated bluesmen has toured and collaborated extensively, proving time and again why he is an Australian music scene favourite.
Applications for the Emerging Artist Grant and the Alison McKenzie Mentor Program open on Saturday 1st June and close Wednesday 10th July.
The 23rd Queenscliff Music Festival will run from 22nd – 24th November 2019.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
