.Melbourne singer Rae Santos has been making waves on Melbourne’s music scene since 2014. Honing his song-craft to a growing Twitch fanbase has enabled him with the freedom to make a multitude of genres sound like second nature, creating meaningful connections with audiences regardless of musical tastes. Something he calls Rae-ification.
His latest single Red Wine and White Lies is a pop rock song that takes you through the pain of missing a profound love that is no longer there. Taking the perspective of a relationship at breaking point, and wanting so bad for things to be as they once were. The strong, upbeat groove coupled with the overtly pop-punk melody is a blatant cry for help. Rae’s deft ability to integrate these tensions illustrates vulnerability, as if to drop your camouflage and open up to one’s lover in such a raw and honest way.
.Speaking to the impact that his new single has, Rae says “Red Wine and White Lies is a painfully reminiscent song. Juxtaposing heartbreaking lyrics with the driving pop rock vibe leaves the listener stuck between the deteriorating present, and a happier past”.
The song was recorded at Elusive Creative Studios with Spud Thompson (producer and sound engineer) who spared no expense breathing life into Red Wine and White Lies. Thompson lends his lead guitar, bass and vocal prowess to the song, on top of mixing it with guidance from Elusive’s owner Michael Clarke. Both Spud and Michael are longtime friends of Rae, along with drummer Andrew Metallinos who performed a stellar job on the song. Being surrounded by close friends, who are consummate professionals in their respective fields produced the best possible end result.
Not confined to Twitch, Rae is equally adept live, having played at some of Melbourne’s most esteemed venues, including The Espy, The Corner Hotel and the Revolver Bandroom. Combining the confidence of an experienced performer with that of a studious songwriter means Rae’s discography boasts a strong sense of storytelling that is able to freely connect with any listener regardless whether they’re into Johnny Cash or Lewis Capaldi.
