With a sound as sweet as berries and just as varied, Rainbow Sally makes her vibrant debut with the catchy indie-pop dream ‘Double Dare’.
Rainbow Sally is the alt-pop project of Sarah Short — a singer, songwriter, and producer living on a rural farm on Australia’s mid-north coast. While ‘Double Dare’ may be her first official release, Sarah has been writing music since childhood, experimenting with everything from punk rock to orchestral emo. With Rainbow Sally, she embraces a genre-blending, candy-coloured soundscape full of textured production and raw, heartfelt songwriting.

Co-written and produced by multi ARIA award winner Ben Lee and released via his label Weirder Together, ‘Double Dare’ is a bold and playful introduction to Rainbow Sally’s world. The track’s whimsical drumming, shimmering piano, and sweet, airy vocals evoke memories of sun-soaked afternoons and scraped knees on the playground — nostalgic, bright, and buzzing with energy.
Lyrically, ‘Double Dare’ filters heartbreak through a rainbow lens. Rainbow Sally flips the script on a past hurt, daring the other person to own their mistakes while reclaiming her voice and power. With its defiant, infectious hook — “speak up, I double double double dare you” — the song stays buoyant and fun even as it delivers its message with a punch.
