Sydney‘s Raising Ravens new single “It’s a Trap” has hit the Number 1 spot on Australia’s AMRAP Metropolitan Airplay charts, and has been added to playlists around the world including USA, UK, Canada, Egypt & Brazil.
“It’s a Trap” is a dark pop/rock story exploring the true meaning of fairy tales that people have been fed as truth which glorify and romanticise domestic violence and intimate partner abuse.
The video, directed by Lord Tim, premiered on USA blog Havoc Underground ahead of the release and the Sydney launch gig was a full house.
“You’re taken on quite the journey while listening to “It’s A Trap”. Impressive instrumental and vocal work lead the way while you’re also being handed unique transitions, an epic guitar solo, and powerful lyricism.” – HAVOC UNDERGROUND

Raising Ravens is the solo project for songwriter, guitarist and singer Jess Finlayson. Starting out as the lead guitarist for all female hard rock renegades Nitocris followed by the infamous Fyreflyes, Jess has been touring, writing and recording since the age of 15. More recently being the founding member lead singer/lead guitarist for The Mis-Made, who are currently on hiatus, the focus is now on recording a Raising Ravens solo album involving a variety of Finlayson’s favourite musicians with long-standing producer Lachlan Mitchell at the helm.
“It’s A Trap” was written as a commentary on the lies we as human beings are fed through the romanticism of the fairy tales and the expectations that are forced, particularly on young women as to the treatment they are expected to endure even when faced with the horrific truth behind domestic violence and intimate partner abuse. Inspiration for the song was drawn from the fable ‘Bluebeard’ which speaks volumes to Jess personally, about how people will turn a blind eye to abuse, even when it has been exposed and can no longer be covered up or hidden and that there is a strong push from society to deny the facts in order to maintain the fantasy that is kept alive by a veneer of convenient lies and deception.
Finlayson explains, “This song is an anthem for survivors and the strength it takes to tell their stories. The truth is there for everyone to see, if only we have the courage to face it.”
“Finlayson has been a massive presence on the Australian hard rock circuit for a number of years and now, with Raising Ravens, has found her niche once more. Dirty old school rock that instantly takes you back to your angst-ridden youth” – HEAVY MAG

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
