The song was written as a reflection on mob mentality and how quickly things can get out of hand when people turn, or are turned against each other. Essentially, the feeling of loss and being alone in the crowd if you dare to think for yourself.

Raising Ravens was conceived by Australian rocker Jess Finlayson (Nitocris, Fyreflyes, The Mis-Made) in 2020 and grew into a musical nebula over the following years of mayhem and chaos.
.
.
The ‘Leaving With The Halflight” album was recorded over a 3-year period of time, dodging lockdowns and all manner of storms, embracing the ambiguous nature of the dark and light aspects of life and rock and roll. Including contributions from some of Jess’s favourite musical comrades, Raising Ravens has become more of a collective than one singular entity and continues to evolve. Choosing to remain completely independent, Jess created her own label, Interloper Records in 2021 with all Raising Ravens releases being launched from a platform owned and run by the artist.
A hard-hitting rock-based project, Raising Ravens focuses on topics that tend to be swept under the carpet or ignored and touches on subjects relating to worldwide and personally experienced abuses of power and the effects those abuses have on those who are at its mercy. Working alongside long-standing friend and producer, Lachlan Mitchell, Raising Ravens have managed to pull together a vast body of eclectic work.

“Raising Ravens is the solo project by ex-Nitocris lead guitarist Jess Finlayson, and if you had ever wished Nitocris had kept going, you’re going to be more than pleased with Leaving The Halflight. I chucked my headphones on, and I began my journey through the record’s 11 songs. And there it was. THAT sound, and I was so thrilled to hear it. Perhaps more importantly, I was pleased to recognise that it’s timeless. If you ever listened to Nitocris, you know the sound I’m talking about. When a musician can be instantly recognised by the tone of their instrument, that’s a beautiful thing. Jess’ guitar riffs and melodies are an infusion of classic rock, punk and metal, and they are unique to her.”
HEAVY MAG album review
“Sonically I would call this rather catchy low-fi Hard Rock with a definite taste of early 80’s UK Indie Rock and it’s really quite mesmerizing and fresh. And the deeper you dig the more you uncover on this exceptional record from the gentler, slightly dark waters of ‘Don’t Stay’ or the more urgent ‘Unherd’. Very, very good. 9/10”

AMNPLIFY – ML
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
