Eora/Sydney-based alt-rock shapeshifters RedHook today unleash their fourth single of 2024, ‘Pyromaniac’ – produced by Stevie Knight (Stand Atlantic) and mixed by James Paul Wisner (Underoath, Paramore).
Combining hip-hop-inspired verses, stadium rock production, and a soaring, achingly heartfelt chorus, ‘Pyromaniac’ is a spooky, wacky metalcore anthem exploding with creative quirk and visceral emotion.
Vocalist Emmy Mack explains the inspiration behind ‘Pyromaniac’: “‘Pyromaniac’ is a song about making an urgent decision to get professional help with your mental health. It soundtracks this brutally catalytic moment – standing alone in the wreckage of your past mistakes and desperately resolving to change before it kills you. To figure out the root of your self-destructive patterns so you can finally break them. It’s about reflecting on every bridge you’ve ever burnt and asking for help to figure out how to not burn anymore.”
The blistering new single is accompanied by an appropriately fiery music video directed by frequent RedHook collaborator Colin Jeffs of Ten Of Swords Media (Imposter, Cannibal). Loosely inspired by the rich symbolism and visual metaphors of the 1986 film The Labyrinth, the clip takes place inside a dark, whimsical space, dimly lit with hundreds of candles and filled with creepy objects, representing the bleak, haunted powder-keg of Emmy’s mind. The bizarre appearance of singing sock puppets symbolises the beginnings of a descent into madness, as the fragile candlelight erupts into an apocalyptic inferno that threatens to destroy everything unless urgent action is taken.
‘Pyromaniac’ also strikes the match on a new era for RedHook, arriving alongside the announcement of the Eora/Sydney act’s first-ever label signing with Adventure Cat Records (Against The Current, The Summer Set).

On the signing, Emmy says: “RedHook have always prided ourselves on being 100% independent, and it took the right label to come along to make an honest band out of us. We have so much love and respect for Matt and Mike from Adventure Cat; they’re both absolute weapons in the global alternative space, and their achievements speak for themselves. But they’re also just top-notch humans. They understand our vision and are perfectly aligned with our hard-punching underdog (or, er, cat?) ethos, and we couldn’t be more stoked to join forces with them for this next chapter.”
It comes as RedHook gear up for their biggest Australian headline shows ever this August and September. The tour package is bursting with femme power, with the band to be joined by Naarm/Melbourne melodic rock force The Beautiful Monument and Mulubinba/Newcastle pop-punk stalwarts Eat Your Heart Out, with Boorloo/Perth metalcore rising stars Patient Sixty-Seven opening the night.
Previous single ‘Cannibal’ featuring Alpha Wolf, was added to full rotation on triple j and saw playlist support from Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer, including being featured as the cover of Spotify’s ‘Homegrown + Heavy’.
‘Pyromaniac’, ‘Cannibal’, ‘Breaking Up With’, ‘Scream 2’ and ‘Tourist’ are all pieces of a larger release to be announced shortly. RedHook will also hit the triple j studio for their debut Like A Version performance on Friday, August 23.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
