Barangaroo House is set to turn up the volume when Rekōdo restaurant and vinyl bar welcomes a new DJ Set Series, taking over the decks every Wednesday throughout August. Curated by some of the best names in the music space, Planet Trip, Elefant Traks, Utopian State, Future Classic and I OH YOU will each have their turn to showcase some of the best homegrown (vinyl) DJs in the scene.
Rekōdo blurs the line between food, drink and music to create an immersive restaurant and vinyl bar experience along the harbour. The Wednesday takeover blends Rekōdo’s offering of Japanese-inspired flavours and cocktails with a killer soundtrack curated by a collective of tastemaker labels that have contributed to shaping Australia’s thriving music landscape. First up on the decks will be Planet Trip showcasing Mike Who and Caravan on Wednesday, August 2. Elefant Traks will take over Wednesday, August 9, enlisting the beloved Diola, Solo and DGGZ to curate the soundtrack for the evening. Taking the reins on Wednesday, August 16, Utopian State will be bringing Surahn who will be performing live, a first for Rekōdo, performing tracks from his latest EP, Soft Rock Summer followed by Sidwho for a nonstop spinathon. Wednesday, August 23 will see Future Classic unleash its roster of sought-after DJs. Spinning the decks for the final Wednesday night, August 30, will be the iconic vibe controllers, I OH YOU, with Paddy Harrowsmith and Johann Ponniah delivering a plethora of nonstop hits to ensure the series wraps on a high.
Johann Ponniah from I OH YOU says, “I’m really looking forward to playing a few of our favourite records at Rekōdo next month, it’s a bit of a rarity that we get to take stock of our past and relive some good memories and the tunes that have soundtracked them… should be a bit of fun!”
Surahn from Utopian State says, “The label will be bringing a tapestry of funk, soul, jazz and disco along with lathe cut edits from Surahn’s new LP ‘Soft Rock Summer’ and performing a handful of live tunes with a new soul signer Ollie English.”

The August takeover will be an opportunity to pass the mic to some of the industry’s most notable labels, giving a platform to their roster of incredible DJs that are set to spin the decks this Winter. Future Classic, known for empowering their artists to build their art that is creatively uncompromising, boasts a glistening catalogue of heavyweights from Flume to Flight Facilities to emerging talents such as Willo. Elefant Traks, who are Australia’s longest-running hip-hop label and home to some of the biggest acts including Hermitude and Nardean. Beloved and well-respected label, I OH YOU, have been responsible for the success of a number of iconic Australian acts including DMA’s, Confidence Man and Violent Soho. Highlighting some of Sydney’s local labels, Rekōdo has brought on board Planet Trip, who have fostered a number of up-and-coming DJs including Zen In Space and Caravan, and Utopian State, responsible for the success of a number of local South Australian artists, to help amplify the already stacked lineup.
To complement Rekōdo’s Japanese-inspired food and drink, there will also be a limited-edition DJ Sets Series menu influenced by the esteemed record labels and with a flair of hip-hop peppered throughout. Available on Wednesday nights during August, Head Chef Tara Chua’s menu will include fried cheese sandos, wagyu hotdog buns, and togarashi popcorn.
Creative Bar Manager, Jai Lyons, in collaboration with Connor O’Brien from small bar Otis in Leichhardt, will also curate a series of music icon-inspired, minimal-waste cocktails made using leftover kitchen produce and syrups, vinegar, purees, infused spirits and wines all made in-house using techniques like sous-vide, force carbonation, and cold infusion. Must-tries include the delicious nod to Kendrick Lamar, ‘King Kunta’ (cacao-washed pisco, yellow Chartreuse, kumquat whey, roasted pineapple syrup, coconut cream and lime); a DJ Khaled-inspired ‘Another One’ (Tenjaku whisky, mezcal, blood orange syrup, Japanese-inspired Mexican mole, egg foam, lemon); and a 2-Pac classic ‘All Eyez on Me’ (Patron tequila, yuzushu, pepper and dashi cordial, tamarind and lime yuzu blend). Eminem and Naughty by Nature also feature in the line-up.
Phoebe Nannetti, General Manager of Barangaroo House, says: “We’re hitting play on Wednesdays at Rekōdo with a vibe that is going to amp up your week – grab your friends and come in for a cocktail or settle in and stay until late.”
With music and discovery at the heart of Rekōdo’s ethos, August’s takeover will dial up the senses for audiophiles, melophiles, culture seekers and gourmets alike. Since opening its doors last year, Rekōdo has continued to elevate Sydney’s social scene and has become one of the leading cultural hubs in the city. So this August, why not hit play and secure your booking for a fusion of cultural and sonic experiences curated by the best in the game.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
