19-year-old SONN releases slow burning RnB gem “Mercy“. Thematically building around “falling for someone”, sonn teams up with rising Swedish-Iranian vocalist Ayelle to repeat the success of their last track “Lights Out“, which recently surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify.

Mercy is about that moment in a new relationship when you decide to let down your guard and you’re low-key freaking out because it might be a horrible idea but you can’t help yourself.– Ayelle

Whilst producing Mercy I wanted the song to provide a sense of nostalgia, I used big airy synths to emulate a cloud-like emotion making whoever is listening feel warm. – sonn

THE STORY SO FAR

Born Jed Stewart-Ng, sonn (fka AKAY) is a 19-year-old Half-Scottish and Half-Malaysian artist who came into limelight when he first started producing music August 2015. sonn’s style of music is best described as future R&B drawing inspiration from artists like Ta-ku, Hucci, OSHI, Gravez, and EKALI.

In just two years, sonn has gotten support from industry heavyweights like Joyryde, Breaux, Petite Biscuit, SteLouse, DJ CrazeInstant Party! and A-Trak, leading to his latest track being signed to Majestic Casual Records. His latest release “Lights Out” featuring singer Ayelle broke over 1M streams on Spotify, as well as his previous records being featured on the world-renowned BBC radio, BBC Introducing.

Big brands have also taken notice with the Adidas Flagship store in London featuring his songs on their playlist. You can expect to catch sonn touring Europe and the rest of the Globe in 2018. Swedish-Iranian Ayelle has been songwriting ever since she learned how to write. Growing up in Sweden and Spain, she continued on to pursue music in London, where she has since garnered support from the likes of Majestic Casual, Chill Nation, Trap Nation, Complex UK, Indie Shuffle, The Line of Best Fit, Earmilk and Hillydilly.

The PRS Women Make Music grantee is known for bittersweet, sultry vocals and emotive lyrics. Drawing inspiration from own life experiences, her writing explores power dynamics within relationships, challenging the status quo, as well as sparking discussion and self-reflection. 2017 saw the singer reach new heights, racking up millions of streams as well as 400,000 monthly listeners on Spotify thanks to successful releases such as ‘Stay Calm’ with long-time collaborator Calper, and ‘Lights out’ with Sonn on Majestic Casual.

Ayelle has also released a string of features with artists such as Devault, Alex Lustig and Taska Black on labels like San Holo’s Bitbird and Zed Dead’s Deadbeats.

2018 has already seen radio support from BBC 1Xtra and lots more in the pipeline, including performances at The Great Escape and an upcoming EP ‘Slow Clap’ produced by Brad Baker.
