Zambian-born & Botswana-raised, singer-songwriter, poet & lyricist, Sampa The Great is poised to have another breakout year. Today, the now Melbourne-based artist share Rhymes to the East, her first release with Big Dada. Working with frequent collaborators Sensible J (production) and Remi Kolawole (keys), “Rhymes to the East” was recorded in one take. Sampa explains – “It was a stand out track to me and one of the strongest lyrics I have captured to date. As soon as I heard this beat, I knew exactly what I wanted to say. I was immediately transported to the East.”

The rise of Sampa The Great has been nothing short of spectacular. First appearing by way of 2015’s The Great Mixtape – described by OkayPlayer as “an adventurous young mind pushing out against all boundaries” – the mixtape featured the #1 Hype Machine hit “Blue Boss”Follow-up releases “Black Dignity” and the collaborative HERoes & HERoes Act 2 projects (released via Red Bull Sound Select) were received with similar greatness, having piqued the global interests of the likes of Rolling Stone, The Guardian, Complex and Noisey.

Following live shows in support of Kendrick LamarThundercat and Hiatus Kaiyote as well as performing on festival stages like LanewayGolden Plains & Sugar MountainSampa has announced an upcoming European headline tour and a run of shows in support of Joey Bada$$ before returning to Australia for a stream of festival shows over the New Year period.
