After a recent live streamed performance in her home country Zambia for the virtual benefit concert BLACK AUGUST, and recently being announced as BET Amplified’s first-ever global artist, Sampa The Great today shares a new remix of her single “Time’s Up” with New York rapper and artist, Junglepussy.

Zambian-born, Botswana-raised and now Melbourne-based, Sampa The Great collaborates with Junglepussy to present a fresh take on the original, that spoke freely to admonishing diversity and calling out the entertainment industry for true progress. A motif that applies globally, today’s reimagined release includes new verses from Sampa, and an impassioned verse from Junglepussy, whose output as a rapper and actress has been revered and adored by fans, critics and fellow contemporaries alike.

The remix also coincides with the launch of the #TimesUpRemix competition. In partnership with SoundCloud, the social media competition encourages black women and non-binary people across the world to submit their best verse for “Time’s Up” via SoundCloud, Instagram, Twitter, Tik Tok and Facebook. Encouraging entrants to speak on their true experience, the top 2 verses could win the chance to have their voice featured on a new official remix, exclusive merch and more. All proceeds from the remix’s gross income on download and streaming platforms will be donated to Pola Psychology, furthering Sampa’s partnership with the Naarm-based practice that provides culturally appropriate mental health care for African youth and musicians in their own community, by their own community.

Sampa The Great has forged a reputation for breaking both personal and industry records while writing herself into history books, this year becoming the first musician to ever claim the prestigious AMP title twice in their career, having won just two years prior with her 2017 breakthrough mixtape Birds and the BEE9. The prize continued the building of a prolific legacy for The Return, following her win at the 2019 ARIA awards, when she took home the first ever ARIA for Best Hip Hop Release with her single, “Final Form”. Alongside an ARIA, Sampa took home multiple titles at the annual J Awards, including Video of the Year for “Final Form” and Double J’s Artist of the Year, while also achieving the title of Best Hip Hop Act at the Music Victoria Music Awards and The Return being recognised as Bandcamp’s #1 album of the year. Most recently, Sampa was announced as BET Amplified’s first-ever global artist, kicking off a month-long spotlight on BET’s platform of over 90 million households around the world and featured on The Michelle Obama Playlist.
