THE Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth is drawing near and, as well as polishing your boots and brushing off your hats, it’s time to perfect your dance moves.
Sydney band, Simply Bushed, have their sights on setting a uniquely Australian Guinness World Record at the biggest country music festival in the Southern Hemisphere.
The award-winning band is aiming to set the Heel and Toe Polka world record on Wednesday, January 23 in Bicentennial Park (Toyota Park).
“We are aiming for 1000-plus people doing the dance because it is the quintessential Australian bush dance,” co-front man Paul Grierson said. “Every child at school knows how to do the Heel and Toe Polka and it’s a lot of fun.”
Fellow front man, Chris Rieger agreed, and said the event was designed to attract all age ranges because bush dancing brought people together.
“Bush dancing brings everyone together, no matter how old or young you are,” he said. “It is also a great way to meet people and many lifelong loves have been formed from a first meeting at a bush dance.”
As well as being the bush form of speed dating, the Bushies have seen first-hand how these events bring generations together through their annual festival family bush dances.
“At our bush dances, it’s not unusual for a grandfather to grab their small grandchild for the very first dance of the night and we can’t see why a world record would be any different,” Paul said. “I see this event as being part of something bigger than each of us because bush dancing is almost a lost part of Australia, so we would like to give a new enthusiasm for this wonderful community activity.
“We’ve wanted to do something that was substantial for bush music for a long time, so if we can create an interest in our flavour of country through this event, then that would be fantastic, because there aren’t that many bush bands around anymore.”
The world record attempt will be held at Bicentennial Park, Tamworth on January 23 from midday and is sanctioned by the Guinness World Records. Anyone interested in taking part, can register here: https://tinyurl.com/HeelToeWRA

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
