Praise for SKELETEN

“[On ‘Mirrored’]…songs can sometimes lose their appeal fast. This isn’t one of those. 5 stars.” – Richard Kingsmill, triple j

“I really love this dude. The music’s so good. It does have Arthur Russell vibes, I think that’s why I immediately like it so much.” – Tom Ravenscroft, BBC 6 Music

“This new project of the Gadigal/Sydney based producer, vocalist and DJ sees him create timeless electronica, drenched in sincerity and uncomplicated openness that’ll leave you hanging on every word.” – triple j

To round off the first half of the year, Sydney/Eora producer and vocalist Skeleten released ‘Live In Another World’. The track added an immersive dancefloor beat to his signature ethereal synth work and today he enhances the release further with remixes from two standout forces in the Australian underground scene; Moktar and Jennifer Loveless. The remixes echo the original track’s sentiment; being at once intimate and otherworldly, hinting at another reality that’s sitting dormant. Out now on Astral People Recordings / [PIAS].

Moktar is a DJ and producer effortlessly combining club and techno with traditional Arabic instrumentation, sampling and producing to emphasise his Egyptian-Australian background. Fresh off the back of his debut single, Moktar has already found fans in Jamie xx, Bonobo, Hudson Mohawke, DJ BORING and more. “Stoked to have remixed one of my favs and a great friend Skeleten,” says Moktar. “It also happens to be my favourite track of his to date. It was a lot of fun throwing in my touch on this single”

Canadian born, Narrm based producer, Jennifer Loveless is a stand-out talent and well-loved community member within the local dance scene of Australia, having recently released her debut EP to the acclaim of international tastemakers including Jayda G, Ela Minus, Marcel Dettmann and more. On her ‘Endless Arvo Mix’, Loveless says, “For this remix I wanted to highlight the groove existing in the original track – it’s an endless mover.”

On the remixes, Russell Fitzgibbon says, “This one was always destined for the club treatment and I feel very lucky to have Jennifer Loveless and Moktar meet me there. Both of these artists are so experienced and innovative in creating new worlds on a dancefloor and that’s exactly what this is all about!”

Directed, filmed and edited by Skeleten himself, both of the visualisers that accompany each remix feature Fitzgibbon dancing along to the two very different takes on his original track.

This latest single follows the release of 2020 debut single and FBi Radio’s Song of the Year nominee ‘Mirrored’, along with ‘Biting Stone’, ‘Walking On Your Name’ (remixed by Logic1000 and Rings Around Saturn) and ‘Live In Another World’, collectively clocking up 1.8M streams. Recently, the former BBC Radio 6Music Recommends Spotlight Artist provided a guest mix for triple j’s Mix Up and released his first official remix for Cosmo’s Midnight, the only Australian producer on the release which featured reworks from the likes of Omar S, Brame & Hamo and RIMON.

Russell Fitzgibbon cut his teeth in Sydney’s tight-knit electronic community just as the city itself was forging its own identity. As an artist, his symbiotic relationship with his hometown saw his career blossom in tandem with the city’s electronic coming of age. A gradual shift from early maximal sample-based productions morphed into more dance-focused releases as he continued to cultivate his sound. Always looking to understand music in new ways, these years of restless experimentation led to the genesis of his most personal project to date; Skeleten.

As one half of the renowned production duo Fishing, Fitzgibbon has previously enjoyed support from Pitchfork, XLR8R, Rolling Stone and more. He has graced festival stages nationally including sets at Splendour In The Grass, Big Day Out, Groovin’ The Moo, The Falls Music and Arts Festival, supported a slew of international artists like SBTRKT, Jungle, Yeasayer and The Go Team and headlined a run of sold-out, headline shows down the East Coast of Australia.

The new direction is Fitzgibbon unfiltered for the first time as both a vocalist and producer. At the core of the project lies a strong sense of uncomplicated openness, as the music naturally took shape over relaxed, late-night sessions between other work. “For the first time, I was really just making music with absolutely no intention, just doing exactly what felt good in the moment,” Skeleten says. “It was only after I had all these ideas floating around that I started to realise how much it sounded like me, and maybe understand a little of what I was getting at.” Drawing from a seemingly limitless creative well, Skeleten contributes all design and visual components for the project, offering an all-encompassing visceral experience for his listeners.
