Ahead of the release of St. Leonards  and their headline tour kicking off this Friday, Melbourne’s Slowly Slowly have unveiled their next single “Ten Leaf Clover”.

Following on from their hit “Alchemy”, “Ten Leaf Clover” is Slowly Slowly narrating the search for happiness, where seeking something wholesome in the most unwholesome place and staying optimistic is a hard task to bear.

“This song is about searching for true connection in an age where it seems so hard to find. It’s a modern-day love story — Romeo & Juliet, but with the internet,” explains frontman Ben Stewart. “It was initially inspired by my friend Anna Jay’s voice, I heard her sing and could hear this little duet brewing in my head. I threw a bunch of experiences of my own and of my closest friends into a mixing pot to try and detail the difficulties of remaining honest and hopeful in what can be a pretty demoralising quest.

“I came up with the video concept while running and listening to the song, I had my arms out wide kind of moving them like I was a kid pretending to be a plane and I was like, ‘rollerskates. Yes. Rollerskates.’. We reached out to Nicole Slovak to be in the clip after seeing some of her amazing performances – she had this sense of grace and sadness, a considered confidence that was really captivating. It all came together way too easily.”

Out this Friday via UNFD, St. Leonards is a vivid snapshot of the life of Ben Stewart and those closest to him. Lyrically dense yet restrained instrumentally to allow room for striking imagery and vibrant metaphors, Stewart veers between stream-of-consciousness accounts of futile existence in the city to rich narratives about love, life and the family cornerstone at St. Leonards beach.

Earmarked to be one of 2018’s breakout bands by triple j Unearthedtriple j Music Director Nick Findlay said,

Slowly Slowly from Melbourne are harking back to almost like that Kisschasy era of emo pop punk at a time where it’s just perfect.”

On the album, Rock Sound Magazine says,

“St. Leonards sees Slowly Slowly pushing themselves to new heights to ensure no one underestimates them”

while Stack Magazine sums it up best with

“Slowly Slowly are making gold on their sophomore effort”.

On release day, Slowly Slowly kick off their Australian headline tour. Starting in Tasmania this Friday, on release day no less, most dates of the St. Leonards album tour are already sold out months in advance. Strictly limited tickets are available for all other shows.
