Following up their recent signing with Dew Process, releasing of the killer single, ‘Sad Guy,’ and selling out shows across the country, Perth indie punks Sly Withers today return with a brand-new track, this time featuring a cameo from fellow West Australian rising star – Carla Geneve.
The new single, ‘Lately,’ which premiered on triple j’s Home & Hosed program followed by an online premiere at Pilerats, sees Sly Withers co-frontman Jono Mata team up on vocals with Geneve to create gorgeous harmonies over the top of crunchy power chords and thundering beats – the two managing to float melodic petals on a bed of searing punk rock. It’s yet another anthemic cut from the four-piece, who are quickly establishing themselves as a new force in the Australian music scene – drawing on plenty of influences while also carving out their own, distinct lane.

“Working with Carla was a pretty easy process,” admits Mata. “Carla’s been a long-time friend and we love all of her work so it seemed like a natural choice. She fit the vibe really well and she was keen to do it.”
“We were stoked that she said yes to be honest,” adds guitarist and co-vocalist Sam Blitvich. “She definitely did her thing and that’s what we wanted. We left it open to her and she got to do ‘the Carla thing’ on a Sly song and we got the best of both worlds. From a songwriting perspective, I find us and Carla quite similar, but in other aspects super different. A lot of people would never put us in the same kind of box.”
Sly Withers are still reeling from a big few months off the back of releasing ‘Sad Guy,’ their first track to premiere on triple j and introduce them to a whole new audience of national fans. The subsequent ‘Sad Guy’ national tour sold out venue performances across the country and solidified them as one of the favourite rising names in indie rock in Australia.
Consisting of members Mata (guitar / vox), Blitvich (guitar / vox), Joel Neubecker (drums) and Shea Moriarty (bass), Sly withers have steadily built a following over the last few years off the back of killer singles like ‘Sad Guy,’ as well as the independently released singles ‘Closer,’ ‘Pleb,’ and ‘Google Maps,’ earning props from national tastemakers like triple j Unearthed, The Music, Pilerats, Life Without Andy and Hhhhappy.

AMNPLIFY – DB
My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
