‘RAINBOW ROCKET RIDE’

“Joy-drama. Twirly. And the colour orange”; the consummate self-described summation of Gold Coast-via-Los-Angeles artist SOFIA ISELLA and her latest single Rainbow Rocket Ride which explodes into the world today. SOFIA ISELLA brings a deluge of creativity and fresh fervour, Rainbow Rocket Ride offers barrels of psychedelic sonic joy, with the song itself inspired by her relative Alan Bean’s moon landing in 1969 on Apollo 12, and the accompanying visualiser, also out today, created by her acclaimed father.
Rainbow Rocket Ride presents as colourfully as its title, overflowing with smooth production and glossy vocals, with Sofia also infusing her classical training as a violinist via some contemporary use of effects and pedals. Blending inspiration from a sea of local and international artists, including Phantogram, Mallrat, Beyonce and Queen, Rainbow Rocket Ride is a scorching celebration of alternative art pop and bold lyricism, while also detailing Sofia’s very real connection to the cosmos, as she elaborates, “This was inspired by a family member of mine, Alan Bean, mum’s cousin, who went to the moon on the Apollo 12 rocket, and came back to earth inspired to make art; in particular he loved to paint the moon. I experienced a lot of sadness a few months before writing this song, and letting go of it felt like colouring in the moon”.
Teaming up with Josh Beattie on production and Paul Blakey mastering, the immersive sonic stylings on Rainbow Rocket Ride exquisitely extend into the accompanying visualiser, with Sofia bringing her creative vision to vivid fruition. With cinematography credits on upcoming films Escape From Spiderhead and Top Gun: Maverick, Claudio Miranda’s indelible expertise blends fluidly with Sofia’s, resulting in a cleverly simplistic visualiser that is equally memorable and magnetic, as explained by Sofia, “My dad and I worked on it, but especially my dad because he is such a genius. The concept is just rockets – not that deep. We wanted to take something simple and do it beautifully. I particularly loved the shot of the astronaut running through a field of sunflowers, I loved the incongruity of that, so that became the theme of the entire single. The clash is very similar to the intentional disharmony of the themes in the lyrics.”
Hailing from an incredibly creative family and born and raised in California before traipsing around the globe in her childhood, it’s little wonder Sofia’s latest venture is one so dynamic and passionately executed. But for Sofia, at just 17 years-old, music and performance has followed her from a very early age, discovering the violin at the age of 2 upon seeing an all-female mariachi band before diving into songwriting at the age of 8. And from writing multiple songs per day in her journal to swapping Los Angeles for the Gold Coast in 2020, Sofia has steadily stamped a name for herself in the Australian music industry in just fourteen months playing over 55 live shows – and she still incorporates her first love, the violin, into her live set and original alt pop music with her own avant-garde twist – often overheard telling front-of-house techs to “please make my solos sound like Metallica or Hendrix”. Armed with her brilliant and quirky new single, the ride for the remainder of 2022 and beyond for Sofia is undoubtedly set to be as colourful and engaging as the psychedelic track itself as she continues to create and find inspiration in this flourishing journey, concluding, “Releasing Rainbow Rocket Ride feels like tripping into a cloud. Very exciting. Very surreal. Very fluffy”. This is definitely a ride you won’t want to miss.
Rainbow Rocket Ride is out today, May 20.

My nickname is “The Amnplifier”. Why? Because around here my focus is on being a conduit for providing greater outcomes that people come here for. My day to day “work” is living in the moment, and I love helping others concentrate on finding their connection to themselves through their experiences.
Why start a music environment? The truth is I love music, I love writing, and I love life. I work with musicians every day, and I feel certain that I will be until they put me in the ground. I have been managing people in businesses of some sort for over thirty five years so along the way I have developed some “wisdom” from my regular and constant “observations”.
Amnplify your experience. That is what we want you to do here, and if you want to let me know why you do, or don’t, shoot me a message on Facebook.
Hope you enjoy yourself here and find something that hits you somewhere.
